This is my latest collaboration. This is with the the band the void, a father son team from Roanoke where I live. This is the same group I've done several beatles tunes with. This is a neanderpaul original called "talkin' about me".

Thanks Craig and sans. Craig I haven't been sick. I don't know maybe I'm losing my hearing? I feel like it's on. As a matter of fact the vox are doubled. How about the organ part on the breakdown? It's subtle in the mix. I'm just proud of it. It's my little baldwin fun machine. Believe it or not I only sang on this one. I wrote all the parts, but the 18 year old kid on the left, Justin, played all the parts other than the drums.

Yet another great song by the all-powerful Neanderpaul

You are under the note, rather than right on top of it when you do the highs. I know this sounds funny, but one trick is to "think sharp" while you are slurring up to the note, and thinking about being right ON TOP of the note, sometimes helps a singer hit the note crisp, rather than settling into a place a little under the note, making it slightly flat. In other words, sliding up to a note is a good technique, but in the process of sliding up, we have to stop when we think we have hit the note. It is easy to get right up to the note, and think it is on, and settle there, holding it out. Imagining being dead on the note, or slightly sharp (imagining it, not actually being sharp) often helps a singer end up right on the note, rather than a little underneath it.

I really like the song though. I was thinking it would be cool if you guys could play a song like that on blue screen, so you guys could then be cropped out and have videos of hendrix or whoever, fill the screen behind you. And maybe plasma colors, like lava lamps, or oil on a projector look, however they did that, you know, how they made those videos back in the 60's and maybe 70's too. A retro look. That would be cool for a song like that.

Yep, he is going flat BUT, the instruments are wee bit out as well..Alotta times its Voice "timbre" that can it sound like its out also..Yeah. you can really tell the organ is OUT on the G chord (D note)Everything has a high middy contour to it which doesnt help (really pronouces it)...Yeah , the word "SAY" coupled with the farfeesa being out makes it prolly worse than what it really is...The vocals and gtrs sound live but drums and bass sound studio (compressed a bit) which is a GOOD thing..Was anything this pre-recorded or dubbed in sync later with the video..I LIKE the tune though .. Just critiquing its over all sound..Yeah , my colr must be off on this screen cause the hat , shirt AND gtr are all the same color..

Everything was recorded in the basement on a 16 track digital. we just set up and "lip synced" for the whole video. I ran a cd player through a guitar amp to play along with. Some of my vids I catch live video with the actual audio and some I just want some artistic freedom. Thanks for the critiques more are welcome and appreciated.

Craig I like the idea behind "thinking sharp" I'm going to try that. I've been asked if I have perfect pitch. I've been told I have relative pitch, which I was also told by the same musicians is better or more useful than having perfect pitch. I don't have perfect pitch. What I do have is an insane memory for exact notes. For instance I can sing guitar parts, bass parts, sax solos, vocal melodies, organ parts etc without hearing a song for years and then play that on a cd or the computer and it will be exactly the right note(s). For instance the guitar part from Zep's bring it on home, or a Kenny loggins sax solo I havent heard in years I can nail the whole thing. even songs I don't care for. Or somebody will hit a chord on a synth and I'll say that's the exact chord that the doors song "blah blah blah" starts in . Those are all specific instances of how it has happened. The last one the guy was like "no that's not the chord from the doors song". I hadn't heard it in a long time, years at least. we dug up the CD and it was exactly the chord.

The audio on this vid is totally mp3'd out due to compression from the host site. I'll upload a better sound quality version to my bandmix profile and ask you guys to give it another listen. First I wanted to get views so I can try to get another number one video on roanoke.com. Every one I've posted so far has gotten there!

You guys jammin?..Yeah , that Mp3 business a crap shoot isnt it?..Ya never know what your gonna get..Man Ill tell ya though..I started savin the WAV (stereo mix)at CBR (constant bit rate, not variable)224 bit rate and sample at 44/100.(used to save at 192)..You wouldnt think there'd be adiff but there is.Real cloase to the WAV..Yeah, Im REAL sensitive to pitch right now cause I just finshed a tune with some harmonies that have a pretty structured layering..MAN , I can put ya in cool edit and fix those flat notes. I do it by ear rather than the agorhythms.Its neatOgrooveybaby... like EVEN, (70's talk ).Yeah , that young boy on gtr was playin licks and phrasing that sounded like us old Cats back in 73 ..LOL..Even the HAIR... ..If ya cant save it at the bit rate, send it to me ..Ill re sample it back into a WAV at 44/100 THEN to 224 CBR MP3.

I heard a radio DJ in Lawrence Kansas who calls himself Neanderpaul. I forget which station it was, they play contemporary pop, hip-hop, rap, etc. Any copywrite infringement on the name? Later...

I've emailed with him once. His name is Paul Marshall. He was nice. He said "looks like we've got the market cornered on the name neanderpaul" He ragged all the wannabes and warned them not to use the name. But he was nice to me. To me it would be like if a soccer player was named prince. Or if a singer used the name pele. We are in 2 different fields. If it did become a problem I wouldn't be too awfully bummed to have to change it. He's 40 I'm 37. I've been gigging under the name since about 96 or so. He's been using it since he was a kid. He was first. I actually radio DJ'd too ironically under the name Paul Rogers. I didn't know it was the lead singer for bad company when I picked it.

Maybe you can get the DJ Neanderpaul to play the recording artist Neanderpaul on his radio program. (Would that confuse the listeners?)
