Well, I guess all topics are welcome now, given all this hyper-political /anti-American etc stuff... so what the heck?

Is speaking in tongues a definite sign of "the initial physical evidence " of the baptism of the Holy Spirit?

... I think we need to rename this forum "Political mix."

I am assuming when you say "speaking in tongues" you might be referring to the age old sign of possession? Or is there something I am missing here? Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

If I am not, then I would say that is enough proof for me there is a supernatural world.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

Hello celtic I enjoyed the tunes you have posted, makes me eager to get mine back up.
Opinion section - The Apostles when they first spoke in tongues was to a large gathering of mixed ethnic groups. I feel that each of the Apostles as he spoke did so in his native dialect. It was the action of The Holy Spirit that caused all in the crowd to understand what was being said. The only "Speaking in tongues" I have personally witnessed was inane bable. I saw no point in it nor do I think it helped to spread the Gospel to anyone. OK BOYS my head is on the old choppin block again ,swing away.

Celticpiping I am actually a big fan of this phenomenon. I have a different terminology for it, though; I call it the Language of Angels.

I've heard a lot of recorded instances of it, and while some just seem like babble to me, there are others that sound alarmingly like a powerful, structured language that just erupts from these people; many of whom never spoke a second language in their lives. Spiritually, I think there is something behind it, although I'm not sure we would agree about the nature of it.

Elizabethan mathematician and scholar John Dee, and the medium and alchemist Edward Kelley claimed to have received the "Celestial Speech", during skrying sessions (skrying - the art of the Seer). They called this "The Language of the Gods" or "The Adamic Tongue" among other things. I think it would be worth your time to check into their writings on the subject.

When a person is placed under hypnosis and speaks different tongues it is referred to in the field of parapsychology as "Xenoglossy."

That is very fascinating, thinking that someone could speak a language like that. I read once that they hypnotized someone in front of like 5000 scientists and they spoke about 80 different dialects of ancient nature. Go figure that one out. Fascinating world, huh?

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

Great job. Very biblical response in fact.

The only thing I would add is...

The Bible does also speak of a secret language or private language that can be spiritual communication to God. And this, presumably is part of what justifies it's use in congregations of charismatic churches. What they generally neglect to follow though, is the biblical admonition that if someone speaks in tongues in church, there should be an interpreter.

In the New Testament, when discussing the various spiritual gifts, speaking in tongues is lower on the list.

It is Paul that said....

1 Corinthians 14:5
I would that you all spake with tongues but rather that you prophesied: for greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

The ancient Vedics (India) spoke of and had a great knowledge of "the language of gods" as well. My guess is it has many variants across cultures and times.

It shows you that the history of this world and mankind stretch back farther than we can even fathom. So many different cultures and religions, and yet, in the end of it, they are all one. How is that so? If you ever pay close attention to religions or other means of cultures, they appear to be connected, even in the smallest of ways - influenced by those before them.

It reminds me of music, how it has evolved for generations. Classical pianist now influence guitarist who now use these crazy 8 finger tapping techniques to simulate a piano.

It is all very fascinating to study, I imagine especially in a classroom with a professor, and a forum of people to debate with in person.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

The Bible says that "God is love"

1 John 4:16
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

I like to believe that this is literally true, and not merely a metaphor. That when we love, truly love one another, we are not just sharing "love" between ourselves, but sharing God.

If God truly is love, then ANYWHERE that love is practiced, no matter the religion, no matter the culture or language used, then God is there, participating in our lives, bringing light into it.

What has been coined "The Golden Rule" namely "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is almost universally found in the major religions of the world, and their holy texts.

Did evil inspire such a teaching? Clearly not.

God reveals himself and inspires truth, to ANYONE that will listen and receive it.

That's my belief anyway.

a few too many drinks. Couldn't understand a word they sang. In all seriousity I was invited to a religious revival and witnessed somebody speaking in tongues. It was truly fascinating. I have no logical explanation for it. One of the church members there said they were actually speaking an ancient language from the time of Christ. Later...

Though I am never loath to grant salvation,
I hesitate indeed to grant pure love.
Whoever wins pure love surpasses all;
He is adored by men;
He triumphs over the three worlds.
