Tribal Chief Billy sure likes 9/8...not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you. some of my best friends are 9/8! good job copping a kora vibe w the "melody" gtr (that's panned to the rt). why the exaggerated far left and far right panning of the gtrs....to allow them to speak better?

Don't be humble, your employment of unusual time signatures and cross-rhythms are expressing a complex variety of a musical atmosphere very common with the greats.

Dude!! Mixing those two tracks was a BRILLIANT idea!! I can't believe you are ducking under the covers when you mention it. We must not be cut from the same piece of cloth. So what if it's 'free'. It WILL be harmonically balanced because you used the same time tags for both tracks, right? C'mon man, jump the fence for once!! (or make that 3 times?) Hah!!!

jook, i think you have me confused with Kenny G and someone who always colors within the lines!

the point i was trying to make about the bass and vibes together....is that i first overdubbed a bass line to your gtr parts. done.

then, independent of that.....i took another pass playing vibes (with the bass trk muted).

in other words the vibes player ain't listening or playing off the bass player....and the bass player ain't listening and playing off the vibist...dig?

now for my money, and in ANY kind of music, free or otherwise....things works best and sound most cohesive to my ears when instruments are working together, listening and playing off each other. really, i don't like listening to or playing w musicians that ain't listening and reacting to one another!

that said....there are some nice synchronistic COINCIDENCES and SURPRISES where things DO line up (stopped clocks are right twice a day, no?)....and then there are the other times where both instruments sound like they're in different zip codes! (yes, they ARE in time, and YES they are playing over the same chords but that doth not maketh good magic generally speaking.

hmmm, i've never thought of myself as a play it safe conventional player or writer....you might be the first to toss that off my way (twice now).

i dunno jook, you might take a listen to "No, Do I LOOK Tense?", "Go Fourth", and "Once In Your Life" on my BM player....they're not exactly I VI II V pop ballads!
