I like your voice . . . song choice ?

Um . . . yikes!

I like your voice, your tone, your intonation.

What if anything would I change? Maybe smoother phrasing on this song to stay in the groove. Some songs you can do dramatic stops and starts, and some call for lots of flow where smooth transitions are important. I played this one at a wedding last year and though it seemed simple at first, it wasn't.

Off key notes throughout. Vibrato is over the top for me. It seems the older WE get the more Liza Manelli the vibrato tends to get. Great choice of song. Good player accompanying you. The recording quality is pretty bad. Lots of treble. No bass. It's harsh to listen to. Still I can hear your pleasant tone. You have WAY more business singing in public for entertainment than most.

Off key moments...
1.Sharp on the 2nd syllable of "lulLAby" at :36.
2.Sharp on the second syllable of "rainBOW" It is on the first note of the run you sing for that "bow". That one is VERY noticeable.
3.The word "and at :54 is just weak. It's below your pleasant range.
4.Sharp at :59 on "dreams".
5. at 1:02 the word "to" starts on key but then it wanders sharp.
6. Sharp on "do" and "come" back to back from 1:05 - 1:06.
7. Flat at 1:55 on on the second note of "blue-HOO-oo.


Highlights
1.The way you push that melody on "blue" at :52 is DELICIOUS!
2.From 1:11 - 1:41 you nailed it. Sweet!
3. From 2:37 on it's sweet other than a slightly sharp spot at 3:05.

Hey, thanks you guys for your comments bad or good. I appreciate your opinions. I have been singing for a very long time and believe it or not, I am better now, more comfortable anyway as a singer, than I have ever been. Still, as you can see I'm still a work in progress, lol. This was my first attempt at this particular song and man, it is a tough song, but I did it my way with feeling and a little bit of soul, and besides all the flat and sharp notes, I think it was pretty good for a live performance at a company function.

I think you did a fine job for a live performance, you just needed to ignore the guy with the Strat telling you how to annunciate (it was obvious he distracted you). Cheers!

We can criticize all we want, and any critique may be valid, but I was listening to the crowd reaction, which sounded very enthusiastic. The audience is really the best "judge," not us "knowledgable" musicians, and I would say you passed with flying colors!

Isn't it amazing how some of the so called best singers in the world sing pitchy during live performances. This is something that has haunted me all of my singing career. I try soooooooooo hard to stay on pitch but I think I get caught up in the moment or something, lol. In that performance after I hit the high note, and people started cheering, I was so proud of myself that I was able to stay focused on the song, like I didn't even hear them, when I really wanted to stop cheer with them, ahhahhahaa

Man, some people can really get on that stage and sing their butts off, high as a kite. I don't know how they do it. I wish I could drink before a performance as I think it would help me to relax but I just have to be in control of my faculties. As long as I have been singing, I still get very very nervous. I was in a band once where nobody (cept the other lead singer) drank, and the stage would be lined up with drinks from the audience and they would just sit there all night until we were done playing. The other lead singer was amazing but he was a druggie and a drinker, but man he could get on that stage high as hell and sing his booty off, lol. I guess some people are just naturals, but not me, I have to work very very hard just to sound even a little bit good, lol.

in my experience as a musician nothing good comes with playing with alcoholics and drug addicts. People say they can "loosen up" with alcohol. I say they "loosen up or down" and sing/perform worse and it throws off their timing when playing an instrument. I consider performing live a job. It's funny but those same drinkers and druggies wouldn't dare do that on their day jobs if they had to pee into a bottle.
