Hello to one and all I hope I am doing this right since I just joined today. My name is Fallen Angel and I have an album scheduled to be released by the end of this year and so I am currently looking to introduce my self to the community and see what everyone likes or what genres of music they are interested in the most (as my manager has let me know I need to find a band!)

I am a vocalist with 40 years of experience signing and I want to hear from you and what your all about!!

:D

Welcome Shari! I sampled your selections, not my cup of tea but sounds like you have it together. Book a couple of shows for a couple of months from now, you'll have an easier time of getting a band together. Good luck!

Most people think you have to have a band to book a show, when it's really quite the opposite: book a show and then you'll be able to attract people for the band. Of course, don't tell the venue what you're doing lol!

Jimmy that's typically performer suicide to book shows and then attempt to get your band...

You have to be one gutsy sucker...

No band = no show..period.

Hardly Scotty. You have fallen into the ultimate band catch-22, thinking you have to rehearse for 6 months and then go out and book shows. By then everyone will have moved on. If you want quality people you have to have work lined up. If you can't get a band together for a show that's two months away just quit.

lol Offers aren't that difficult to come by. (especially of late, oddly enough)

Shows aren't either, but you have to ask which came first, the chicken or the egg.

For my self preservation, sanity and peace of mind, I need the band of one mind and in place before I bother to take a show seriously.

no band = no thanks.

You can think what you like, but if you ever played by yourself you know what what it should sound like. I'd rather not play than play some sh*t at the last minute and have it sound like crap or unrehearsed.

I guess it might have something to do with one's own personal style but I would never book the show before I had the band in place.

Just think about the dillwad's and that WPOT show.
That was easy money in the bank for 4 short hours and still people acted crazy about it. I'm guessing that the $ and the show itself are not high on their priority level.

I just like to play, the $ doesn't phase me.
It's very little and to tell the truth, I like playing in that little bar in PA>.
I get free liquor and I feel like NORM from Cheers. LOL

PS: Who the hell rehearses for 6 months? If you can't get it in 3 months, just quit or do another tune..the extra 3 months aren't going to make it any better.

i dunno, jimmy. i think that all depends.

on your area. the type of music you're doing. and how much time you have to weed thru all the flakes, losers, amateurs, and the like that you will be contending with wherever you are.

my experience is that most good musicians (and good musicians/good peeps) are usually pretty busy...and for good reason. so being able to count on hooking up w worthwhile bandmates is never an easy task, nor one you can count on doing on a short timetable.

Everyone has their own way I suppose. But usually you want to attract the best people you can get, and like you said those people are already busy. They aren't going to waste their time rehearsing with you if you don't have work waiting for them. Now you can find tons of lesser experienced folks who will kill a few months rehearsing with you in the hopes something will come of it. But you get what you pay for.

If you can't get it together in 30 days, 300 years won't help.

Conversely just because you book a show doesn't mean you will sound good.
And if I can't sound good when and where I play, I am completely uninterested.

It's certainly true that everyone has their own way but slow and steady wins the race.

If you go off half cocked, like some drunken fratboi, you can expect not to be asked back. (If you sound like sh*t, you are sh*t.)

Now I know I leave a trail of tears and bodies behind me as far as musicians go, but I NEVER BURN A BAR OWNER OR VENUE OPERATOR.

I felt so bad with Drew, I got him a friend of mine's band to play for free to see if he liked them and he did.

I just hope that he doesn't like him too much or else, I won't be getting any more free liquor and comps to say the least. (doh)

To paraphrase an old saying, I wouldn't play at a club that would book a band unseen and unheard!

30 days to get ready to play a 3-4 hour gig? Most folks these days are rehearsing once a week, maybe 2 times, if they are lucky. Sorry, but unless all are Serious pro level, its going to sound like crap half the time, at least with that small amount of practice. It's one thing to have a band *almost*ready, or who lost a member and just need to replace that one person (except maybe the lead singer), but to start from scratch takes dedication and time - unless you don't mind sounding bad.

SERIOUSLY, RIGHT MIKE? EXCELLENTLY PUT and CONCISE..

I was thinking I had lost my mind there..how can you book a gig without having all your ducks in a row?

Never encountered that as of yet..and I hope I never do.

With all due respect, how often do you guys gig? Not go to an open mic once in a while but actually do shows where you are paid? I do every week. If you have the right people together you can put together a working group rather quickly. This means people who already know their parts and only need to rehearse to get beginnings and ending tight. I'm not talking about getting people together who use rehearsal time to learn their parts and/or instruments. Dover Soul did our first show within a month of forming. I have also seen bands fall apart who rehearsed too long. People get bored and move on.
