Nope, don't do that one...your singer can't handle it.

Otherwise the rest of the tune sounds good.

I was listening to a live version of that the other day. Perry ran into the same problem you guys did. That is one of those songs that has to be performed at just the right tempo.

I liked it anyway. :)

The singer had been sick and was not 100% for this gig. He can sing these songs a lot better, I have heard him. Most of the songs we played that night was the first time we had played them together. That was a very important gig and considering the obstacles I think we did a pretty good job. We all made some mistakes even the mullet man hit some bogies in there. Their guitar player up and quit on them what an @sshole! Did I mention he's a lawyer!

I don't know man. We attempted some BOSTON the other night. Same issues. JAX, has also been sick ( a lot of people are ) but I'm thinking it's just out of his range.

I of course, have no empirical evidence so I'll have to defer to the Mullets experience.

Cool Haley, yeah your singer is stretching it, but man I have hardly ever heard anyone do Journey justice, the thing in live is the spirit of it, the crowd is digging it, and in the end that is the thing that keeps your band working.

Great tones on the guitar, great solos, I love the little turn arounds on Anything You Want.

I can tell your digging the new axe and the new band! What amp are you using? The combination of the guitar and amp sounds great to me, I almost wish the guitar was a little bit hotter, but thats the guitarist in me.

Rock On!

Thanks for sharing, Im a fan

They don't call Perry "The Voice" for nothing!
For what little practice you guys have had a sick vocalist... there were some good signs through it.
Your other band MI kicks azz and I'm sure in no time you'll bring these boys up to your standard!
Rock On Jeff! 8)

From what I can hear it sounds good Jeff. Next time have them shoot from your side of the stage so the guitar cuts through better.

Oh and I like the name of this band better than your other one, what is it Mission Improbable or something?

No question that the singer was straining in some of the sections. Maybe when he's not sick it'll sound better, but I'd suggest playing it in a lower key if you could?

It's a common problem. Should you do songs that push the limits of the singer? Or should you just stick to what the singer can sing comfortably? I think most of us would say the latter, but the reality is there are tons of bands trying to cover Zep, AC/DC, Journey and Boston (among others) who really shouldn't (including my own). Most audiences are pretty forgiving, if you're playing "their song" they tend to overlook imperfections. The secret truth is many of these songs were manufactured using the latest technology in very controlled conditions. Trying to replicate them live is an exercise in futility. Just do the best you can, have fun and f*ck the critics.

Well Jimmy you hit it on the head, you have to do what makes the audience happy even if its not perfect.

Vocals are the toughest part of music, and sadly we really abuse some of our singers, I know my band pushes ours!

We should always push the envelope . . . but there is a point that we should not go beyond until we are ready.

It's like doing push ups. If you've not done push ups in a year to attempt to do 100 in the first setting is foolish and damaging.

Bleh rehearse anything you wish, but only perform that which is splendid.

When I hear a tune where the singer is straining to hit the notes in the chorus, I take that moment to get another beer or go hit the head.

When you do tunes that are splendid only, people end up saying that your band is very POLISHED.

(Regardless, you sounded great Jeff.)

JW is right.

That's why I am always surprised to hear people cover AC/DC.
The music isn't hard, but the vocal is difficult to get correct.

When your singer is on with that, it sounds awesome.
But if your singer can't handle it, it sounds bad regardless of how well the rest of the band played it.

I just heard a band butcher "Stand Up" by AC/DC.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePaIr1GWoYg

Now that happens to be a favorite tune of mine but it was so poorly done, it sounded like the guy was saying "Sandra From Plainsfield".

I was like "are they talking about the "Plainsfield camp" near Somerset, England"? lol
