Well, today is a let down for me...
Got my project mastered...I spoke too soon , went through the high five dance and then l took it home...

Even after tweaks in my car stereo, its just not happening. The Pre-masters sounded better but didn't have the punch. These have the punch but the clarity and crispness in some of it got buried...

I could blame my stereo, except for the fact that the radio sounds normal like it should... But my CD, sounds like ...well sounds like its in a box.

I figure if it doesn't match radio standards, its sub par. This pretty much kills my chances of getting some air time for one of them, which I had planned on pursuing..

I really don't know how to tackle this. George is done, made it clear he's through.

I guess this project goes to the back of the closet, ..what a fkn waste...

This music thang, it totally sucks.

Hardly a waste you can let someone else Master it for you. If the recordings, performances, levels are all good let someone else do it. Just try one song and see if you like how it sounds move on from there. Someone here probably can give you some leads on who to trust. In the end at this point it's just going to be more $$$.
Waste... HA!!!!
I remember when you first came here and had the early takes of a few of these tunes... I remember Bench for two.
You've come a long way in a short amount of time.
Don't quit on it now.

Thanks Jahva, Jeff... You guys are right...I was just having a moment!.. I guess it will cost more dollars... But I gotta do that, then my best bet is to take it to a studio and assume the position...

The thing is that it sounds okay on head phones. I don't understand that...

The music thang is a racket, I tell ya...

Hmm.. maybe it was mixed and mastered with headphones ?
That's generally considered a no no

Mixing & mastering without the right environment is verrry difficult.
The monitors and the acoustics of the room have to be really good.

Now you know why I am trying to learn to record and produce my own music! I don't even let other musicians play on my recordings. I am however going to have our drummer in Mission Imposter do the drums thru a file sharing kind of thing. My goal is to have all that up and running by early spring. Meanwhile I have My hard disk recorder that I am writing songs to record as we speak! All I need is software $200.00 interface $200.00. ALL I think about is how to get better guitar tone, become a better musician and singer, write better songs, learn how to become a better recording engineer, producer, arranger. Hopefully someday I'll be better at it all!

That's what I am trying to do as well.
But, I'm also realistic enough to know that it isn't going to sound the same as a studio recording done in a million dollar facility.
I have some general ideas of the "studio sound" I'm looking for.
I think I may have what we need to pull it off.
Or at least enough to lay the basic tracks and finish it up in a REAL studio with a competent engineer.

That's my basic plan, record the electrical instruments directly, at home.
Then, take that somewhere with decent mics & other gear to mix in the acoustic instruments & vocals.

Dog, give Andy Oxman at Soundworks a shot. He's a recording genius IMO. Tell him fisherman bob sent you.

Music is a process and magnificence takes time... and money. If you want to get the most from your tracks, send em to my boy for remix and mastering.

Kent is best known for his work on feature films and commercials like Apple and Volkswagen but he has really excellent ears. He will bring your music to life!

can we get a sneak peek of it on your BM page? when people complain about the quality of the recording I always think of Keith Whitley's "Tell Lorrie I Love Her" it sounded like a tin can too but the strength of that song it did not matter..

Jeff, I just absolutely try to avoid production ...Its a huge pain in the ass, a huge expense, and in my case its just got no marketable angles. I bought a Fostex 4-track (tape recorder) many years ago. Then realized I needed an equalizer...then realized I needed a compressor...then realized I needed effects panels, then realized I needed other money sucking accessories.. I was damned if I had any time left to actually create a song. At that time I was also married...and I simply wasn't allowed to spend my time focused on hours upon hours of figuring out/researching the real-deal sound engineering professional applications, replete with significant project experience and so on....

I also don't see how anybody can get anything notable done with laymen's tools.

Jeff, the reality is, unless you go full tilt -boogie on a real studio (with industry sized boards, environments, equipment and with ace sound production crew , you'll most likely be caught in the gadgets tinkering syndrome and I guarantee, your work will be impacted.

This is why I feel so frustrated, and constantly question why the fuk I do anything toward prodcution... I have to pay out the ass for the real deal, but that's an investment that would require me to be the real deal..I'm just the guy who stayed at a holiday inn express once... I'm nothing... Real studio Oz is way outta my reach...
