Who, in your opinion, is an underrated guitarist? I don't even mean just technically; I mean as in the ability to write quality licks, riffs and fills that make otherwise forgettable songs memorable along with being technically solid.
Some of mine are Bob Marley and Peter Green

Peter Gree was ranked 38th in Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. How is that underrated... Just sayin'

Bob Marley? 90% of his time was jumpin' around on stage singin'

Underrated would be that Sean guy from Canada.

Bob Marley was exactly a relatively solid guitarist... and most of the people I talk to at my high school or in my town have never heard of Peter Green! Maybe just me.

Here are some relative unknowns that I really like:

Bobby Murray- Played with Albert King and Taj Mahal and was Etta James lead guitarist for 20 years. Always tasteful and interesting, never overplayed the song and complimented Etta well. Several Grammys and still virtually unknown.

Dick Wagner/Steve Hunter team- Played with Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith and many others. Some of the most distinctive and tasteful guitar work over the last 40 years and still relatively unknown.

Dick Wagner just did a show here a couple of weeks ago. Him and Hunter on Aerosmith's "Train Kept A Rollin" were fantastic.

But for underrated musicians I have to go with Dan Fogelberg. He did it all - singer, songwriter, pianist, guitarist. His lyrics were sublime, and his music always touches my heart. Miss you Dan.

I saw Dan Fogelberg & Tim Weisberg at a small college concert in 1979. My college roommate was part of the venue promo team and got us seats front row center and backstage passes. Great show and we got to talk with them both afterwards. Very humble guys who really enjoyed playing music.

that's neat you admire Peter Green as a musician.. he was against being wealthy, and wanted to give all his money away, and suffered from schizophrenia .. sounds like a modern day Knight Templar from the middle ages taking vows of poverty..

VinnyViolin

He just won't play in public until he has mastered it as he has his other instruments.
