Some folks want to succeed 'big' in the music world.
Read this article.
.
http://www.abugfreemind.com/success/how ... -musician/
.
It's a bit repetitive, but it makes a valid point.
.
I expect a ton of disparaging remarks . . . Every pessimist will try to convince you that they are realists, and - whilst laughing at you - try to convince you that you are naive.
80 % of people think it can't be done, but if someone has suceeded at a thing, you can too.
If everyone you talk to tells you that you can't succeed, then you are talking to the wrong people. They will always be folks you tell you to give up before you try.
I caution you to ignore anyone who tries to trash your dreams.
Without a positive mindset, nothing can be accomplished, though, eh?.

Its not wrong..but it starts reading like a Tony Robbins pep talk...

Tho I absolutely agree about the power of success mindedness... I think that would apply across all vocations...not just music & entertainment..

What the article does not mention...(very key point) is that you got to surround yourself with successful people. To do that, you start by dumping all the shitheads and assholes that keep hanging around and suck out your energy or spirit.... This Christmas , I told two people to f**k off , ...never wanna see em again... They tried to drag me down and I had just had enough... One guy ..everytime he opened his mouth, it was to cut somebody, or something down... Finally he did it to me... where it became intolerable... and that's when I cancelled my subscription to 'that' friendship.

Success begets success...So it stands to reason that successful people breed successful opportunities...

Any successful opportunity is always driven by the desire of somebody to work his/her ass off.

I have to laugh at high-school kids these days...They see success on TV and totally don't get the 15 years it took for the artist to get there...

Finally, Success does not necessarily require that we win the trophy... I stood up before a crowd of 20 people on New years, and played my original song... They dug it, I dug it and I wouldn't trade that for anything..To me, I was extremely successful that night.

I agree with the concept but it is very incomplete (way too Tony Robbins). The article never mentions opportunity cost. There is no free lunch. Success will always cost you. Great success will cost you greatly. We all choose what we are willing to sacrifice in order to achieve our goals, and success in life means many different things to different people.

I didn't read the article, but I pretty much
agree with what you said rhythm man. There
wasa time when I was into all those power of
thinking books, not today.

Your funny paperdog, I've also slowed way down
on the urge to tell people to f#@k off, tho many
are in need of it. I use ignore and insincerity now,
I'll try to ignore your ass, but if you force it I
become so insincere and uncaring, it's a flaw.

Sucess? Opportunity cost?
PRACTICE that's what it takes as a musician,
practice, practice, practice.
True mastery of a instrument is success in
any musician's book.

I think Tony Robbins owns a bunch
of bbq joints, or maybe he owns a
chain of toy stores for the idle mind.

If something inspires you to be better then thats great, no harm in that.

Music is so hard, I mean I know some guys who had major deals at one point or the other and now are playing some of the same places I play, for less money, so why would I take advice from them?

I think if you surround yourself with successful people in any endeaver you approach that it will rub off on you, this is hard with music cause how many of us know people who are making any sort of real living from it.

I know my place, just a weekend warrior, with a normal job and kids to support in real life.

Yet I remain open to all possibilities because
(1) I will not put limitations on the power of my God
and
(2) sh*t happens. 8)

My wife is very negative about my music which is starting to grate on me. i can't just tell her to piss off but since that is a big piece of my life it's starting to become a real problem.

When I lost my job I was shocked by the number of 'friends' who seemed to enjoy noting how skimpy my chances were, given my age, lack of education and rough neck attitude. It was an eye opener.

But the Lord is good - I just signed up with a company of folks just like me - hard headed, indepenent and aggressive. I've known some of them for several years and really consider this a blessing since I met them when they did some consulting for me on my last gig. Lot's of great bleeding edge tech to play with and for once, i'm NOT the most eccentric guy on the team!

When I used to put in hours a day seven days a week doing my Kung Fu my wife did not understand.
She became jealous and bitter about "being stuck with the kids while I was out playing"

Not until she participated with me did her feelings change.
Now I'm not suggesting force her into the band mind you.
But if you can find a way for her to see how much a part of your being music is, perhaps ... just perhaps ... she will come to understand that you are music.
As my wife realized that without the Kung Fu there was no George.

Mike maybe your wife sees you more passionate about your music than her, its a tough balancing act, Ive been thru this my whole life.

My current wife Ive been very open and honest about my music since she and I got together, does that mean she supports it like I would like, no but she does understand that I have a very major need for music in my life. But I have learned to make sure that I take care of her, and not let music get in between me and her, as in I have to make a choice between the two of them, in my mind she is way more important long term than any music I might create. Theres been many times lately where I made sure I spent the proper amount of time with her, so she knows how I feel about her, even thou sometimes I would just love to plug up and play for a few hours. BALANCE

Just hang in there man!

Talbot, music Can be somewhat of a CURSE! It has cost me one HELL of a lot in life! My first wife (married 17 years) got tired of the life! When they get jealous of your hobby well thats a PROBLEM! My curent wife (no. 3) is, very supportive. I could not be any happier. I hope you can find balance between the two. Sometimes thats just not what they want!

And then there are those days like today when the UPS man delivers your new PA system while your wife happens to be home for lunch for the first time in a year.

Well ... it's too late now, might as well unpack it all. 8)

Yeah ... Busted is right ... in several connotations of the word.

We only go around once right?

I only hope I have enough cables n stuff to link it all together.

Rhythm group will be over tonight to help with set up and testing.

We shall see.
