Last night I got together with my garage band jamm.
Now lets put it this way this other guitar is ok when he doesn't puff some air that is against regulation 249 of the dea act of 1903. However that is not as bad as trying to pump some r&r chords out of a single coil pickup guitar.

Now I'm not attacking all you Fender players, as I do freely admit they have a place when it comes to playing 1 or 2 types of blues tunes.

Now being the hard A'ed old muther R&R that I am, I goaded young Petey into bringing his studio Paul with him. He hates the neck, the feel, and the damn thing is heavy. Shoot I wasn't supposed to say his name. Any well, 2 minutes after I explained the easiest way to use the paul, ( in an attempt to help him fit in better, volumes, tone ,etc) .................

I UNLEASHED A MONSTER! LOL.

All I can remember is the 5 times the key board player said keyboard solo now, and mr SCREW FENDER kept on WAILING AWAY. He was so enamored with his new found humbucking friend, that after we were mostly packed up and I was driving away, Petey was still wailing away.

So anyway thats the proven humbucker fact, that even rabbits and deer will clear the area.LOL

I remain a Fender man. The maple necks on my fenders are worth much to me - and I just plain don't like Gibson necks. (except for Firebird and it's too darn awkard to play)

My US made Lonestar Strat has a Pearly Gates Seymour Duncan that more than delivers the sound I want and obviates any need for an LP.

that said - in many cases I have to agree that Gibson cuts more ice than the Fender. But not a huge deal these days with Jackson and various others putting out pickups and instruments that just won't quit.

I am so used to the clumsy Gibson necks that it doesn't bother me.
I have a hard time playing those great Fender maples.

Yes, and we know God has truly blessed you.
With all the playing you have been doing a real Paul would wear you out to quickly.

Strats and Pauls are different because...wait for it...they do different jobs. Please don't use a hammer when you need a scewdriver.

Im a Paul man all the way, but Strats do hve thier place, I think for rock they are the two basic sounds that people seek and that all other guitars are just a mix or match of these two great instruments.

I thiink it just comes down to what you like, thick rich syrupy or thin spikey stingey!

Mine two.

Set up in what I believe they call the Tex Mex style of bridge and middle humbuckers and a neck single coil.

Ok , Ok , all of you are correct, now if I could just learn to play my boogie without a guitar, I might be on to something. Just kidding.

Serious thought though, Tuning and retuning is minimal problem with my older bulky Les Paul neck, only careless bumping and temperature change are factors in taking it out of tune. I change strings a lot because that is the major reason I have to start doing a lot of retuning.

The thinner fender necks and other fast guitars all have the same problem.
EG, why Vai is always trading off guitars during a show. He is stressing them out and those thin necks won't keep the guitar in tune.

Just a thought,,,, beyond the fact that the more I play a Paul the more I stay in shape.

Most of my Strats are HSS. Since I use high output humbuckers on the bridge, there is really not a lot of difference in the output from my Les Pauls.

But my SSS Strats are wired in series Humbucker mode. That means I get almost the sound of a single coil, but without any hum and twice the output voltage which makes for a nasty overdrive, since the coils are in series they put out twice the voltage of a single coil.
Try it sometime. You'll like it. I started wiring mine like that way when I became dissatisfied with the single coil output, and I can't go back to the standard wiring. The switch position tone changes are rather dramatic.

Glen as far as tuning goes my ole strat stays in tune as good an my Pauls, I do lock down the bridge and dont use the bar on it, but once I do that i can bang that guitar on the floor and it doesnt go out of tune,

I have dimarzio mini humbucker in the back of mine, and a seymour duncan in the neck, I have a muy grande single coil in the middle, it sounds really thick thru my Mesa, not as thick as Jimmys does on the Farleys CD, Jimmy was that the strat on the cd?
