I mean, the park officals are claiming that musicians can't play in "quiet zones." WTF, have our parks become a library now? What about people talking on their cells phones, arguing, chattering with each other, playing games, but musicians are the reason the park is going downhill and people have been complaining?

Sounds to me that they found out some people are making a living playing their music in the park. Well we can't have that! I can't see some tourists going to park officials and saying they had a shitty time because the cello players, the harpists and other classical musicians were disturbing them. Really?

Look at some of the comments, most people are not in support of these new "quiet zone" rule, in fact many see it as a step to becoming a police state or the government impeding more on our rights.

The park officials claim that they aren't against musicians, just not for them to play in the "quiet zones." From the way it sounds, the quiet zone is like the rule they have in my park, you can park wherever you want, just not in the fire zone. The fire zone is painted throughout the whole park excluding our carports and allotted parking spaces. Ha ha.

I will be writing a letter and I encourage other people to do so too. Maybe even start up a petition.

Busking has always been a problem over here, the only way to legally do it is to obtain a licensed ($$) spot in a regulated street festival, and hawk your recordings while playing for the people.

Such BS if you ask me.

One of the romantic features of being in Europe was the buskers. While living in Zurich, I knew a number of American musicians who came over every summer to play in the old part of town. There were magicians, actors, bands. They made the bulk of their living over there. I met many of the busking musicians while living over there and many of them made their living like that, especially classical musicians where there isn't much of a place where they can play. It's not like they can just call up a bar and get a gig. I'm a big lover of classical and opera.

Over here in Laguna Beach, a guy assembled a group of homeless musicians and they recorded a CD and did a documentary on the project for KCET.

There's a petition started and they're seeking 5,000 signatures. I'm all about making a noise myself, so please sign. I'm hitting up my FB and other musician forums. Please pass it around.

Yea Chaeya, same old story where the few want to impose their will on the majority, because in the end it will benefit society. BENEFIT SOCIETY, key words to suck the stupid masses into another lie, Like RED LIGHT CAMERAS.
Hitler, Stallin, Mao, and many others used the same sick twisted logic . Except it wasn't just about music.

Thats why we get so boisterous. If you can stop music, what else?

George you are absolutely right. This is just going to turn into another tax.
Taxes have become the most insidious way to control.
It will start with we just wanted to do the right thing. In this case it will be a $25 permit to play in designated areas on the weekend, ONLY. Permits must be prominently displayed under penalty of law. Permits will be only valid for the date displayed. Permits may only be renewed upon approval of the New York City Parks Musical Commission.
Any Violations may result in fines and or jail time.
Please obey the Law.

There you go, taxes and censorship wrapped up in one little neat package, of pure CONTROL.

There you have it, government control because 1 person out of a million was offended by some one playing some music.

You know you can't label me one thing or the other. I don't like unnecessary taxes and I don't like greed or control.

If you saw many of the comments everyone else said the same thing. One person said that it felt like we were slowly becoming a police state or dictatorship. That's how it starts.

Another comment that I liked was a woman stated that they were visiting central park and saw a cellist by a fountain. Their daughter just went on and on about the cellist to the point where it led to lessons, then joining a youth orchestra and now that youth orchestra got invited to play in Spain and Portugal.

I don't like it a bit when I get labeled. Way to many catch 22s coming from every where.

I love that part about the daughter wanting to play cello after hearing one.
I could say the same thing about guitar(when I was 5) or a PAN FLUTE group I heard in the late 80s in Frisco. Or a group of street horns I got to hear in 'Orleans a year after katrina, devastated the area. (those kids were AWSOME) (19,20,out of high school and playing like life depended on it)

Thats what freedom is all about, and thats part of what makes America so great.

In 96 i lived in Queens for about 6 months. The day i arrived Ziggy Marley was playing at Central Park. But my friends took me to Washington Square. There were all sorts of performers including these two guys who sang and played just about the entire Legend Album. They were awesome. I thought this is cool man i'm in New York. Reminded me a bit of Venice Beach in Cali. w/o the 85degrees, beach bikini's and sun. Oh and the police. In Venice seemed like every performer gets run off. But i didn't see that in NY.
NY has enough park area this can be done w/o hurting any performers. I don't think it's unfair to have some areas where silence or nature is appreciated anymore than having a designated area for the performers. Did I just say that? Yikes I guess i can see both sides. Parks can be great for meditation, reading clearing your mind etc... Not everyone goes to the park to be entertained
