lol....I can't remember the last time I had to audition for a band now that I think of it... Since I picked up the axe again, I've held many an audition for my multiple projects and I didn't even have to audition for "Mugsy" as they already witnessed my playing live! Actually looking forward to it as it keeps me on my toes. Good part is that it is an established band with a following and gigs lined up! They contacted me through FB and said they've heard many positive things about me and knew I was, at the moment, band-less!

I still, though want to continue with my own project, "PanikAtack" and just ned a bassist.... Have had bassists e-mail me but for some reason they never follow through... WTF?? I have FREE reharsal space, a vocalist w/PA(extremely rare over here), quite a few drummers dying to get in but a lot of long winded bassists! I don't get it! I put it right out front what I'm looking for, they respond and then I don't hear a fukkin' word from them afterwards... each time I think I can set up a nice rehearsal and inform the other musicians, the bassists back out last minute!

Hopefully I am able to fill the present guitarists shoes in this new band but most of the tunes aren't my cup of tea but I'll learn them anyway just to get back in the groove again. I'm not so full of myself that I think I'm going to ace the audition because even though I'm confident in my playing, I realize there are many other factors involved when choosing the right musician for each individual act. They are established, They are still playing out, They have management... I have to tone down my playing quite a bit because, I hate to say this, I'm a crazy, wailing guitarist that loves to shine when it's time for leads and that could be my downfall... Oh well.... it don't hurt to try!

Well, I'm sure you have this audition in the bag, Crip, cuz you're a for-real pro & I have nothing but faith in your abilities.

Wish I could play in PanikAtack, but alas...i'm too far.

I can see you no possibly "fitting the niche" but as far as your guitar playing pfft... your a shoe in.

Most importantly is what you guys tell me all the time when I have concerns about dis that or da other ting.

Just have fun.

I just hope that they're good enough for you, Crip, & that they lack the drama that we all see all too often.

Crip, you are absolutely right in your philosophy. You do not have to like every form of music that you are qualified to play. That doesn't mean you can't play a different genre, well. I may be mistaken, but I think Shredd was in the same position when he auditioned for Halemano. Reggae was not his cup of tea...now look at him. He is the reggae bomb.
Hope I'm making sense. I am sleepy as h*ll.

Better that they ditched before trying out rather than screwing the band over right when things started going good.

I feel your pain bro. There seems to be an epidemic of flaking out lately.

Ditto. And too bad I don't live nearby, you'd have your bass player.

LOL.. Thanks guys... You're waay too nice! Well... I actually passed the audition with flying colors...had 6 songs down and now have to learn 56 more  .. These guys have gigs up the wazoo but there's a downside... I actually, seriously HATE most of the songs they do so I got some serious thinking to do in the next couple of days... Don't want them to think they've finally replaced their guitarist only for me to leave them high and dry. The songs I played for the audition were:

Slither - Velvet Revolver
Smokin' in the Boys Room - Motley Crue
Rockin' in the Free World - Neil Young (but I metaled the hell out of it)
Brain Stew - Green Day (YUCK)
Crazy Bitch - Buck Cherry
Man In The Box - Alice In Chains

Pulled them off perfect but now they gave me 2 CD's they do and, let me tell you, 98% of them are top 40 dance crap and that's just not me... How do you throw in AIC, Crue, etc. with those other tunes?? I'll try a few out this week and go down to their rehearsal this Friday and see how it goes as, like I said before, these guys are super busy and every gig is a paying gig... Gots lots ta think about
:?
