Got a real nasty sunburn yesterday. Kept me up nearly all night, alternately freezing & ouching.

This is one of the worser ones I've gotten. I usually get a good burn at the start of the summer season, & it gets me primed for the year, so I went out fishing shirtless in the 95 degree day for 6 hours, cuz the fishing was good, & it was too hot to do anything else.

You ever get burned to the point that it feels like it's deep down in yer muscles? Yeah...it's like that.

The thing about getting old I hate the worst, though, is how my scalp gets burnt right through my hairs!

I dunno, Mary, but I do it every year. It's like a summer celebration or something.

This year, though, the burn is worser...I think I really overdid it.

I depend upon my native american genes a bit too much, sometimes, forgetting that they are all but squished out of existence by my european ones...

Aloe Vera !!

The clear viscous fluid from he Aloe Vera succulent is the boss for burns of most any type.

No "naturalist" should be without an Aloe Vera plant or three.

Aw, Mary! You KNEW I was oh so sensitive, right? For why do you hafta pick on me like that?

*sniff*

Hell, I haven't had my brain clicked ON for years!

Every move I make is accompanied by a groan...yeah, I think I'm a bit overdone!

Yeah, sans, I have some aloe gel in the fridge, but it's too damned cold to use until I leave it out for a cpl hours. I dunno why the wife insists on keeping it there. I think she's a sadist! It's also got some lydocaine in it, which helped me sleep for about an hour last night.

Slacker, I never stopped sweating, so I wasn't too worried about the heat stroke. Never had that, & I never want it, neither! Friend of mine had it, & he won't go out in temps over 85 anymore.

What made you stay out that long anyway? :( You know you can warm the aloe a little quicker if you put the bottle in some warm water. Too bad you can't push a button to raise your Native American gene level when you go out in the sun.

Even too much sun for a Native American can cause vomiting after a while. Cowboys can take the heat too, their skin just turns to leather after awhile.

That would explain the nausea.

The funnest part is how I get relaxed for a moment, & then it feels like I get stuck about 2-3 inches deep with a needle...just about anywhere there's burn. It's a blast to wake up like that.

You should try it!

Cripes! The news says that today it would take only 9 minutes before the sun starts damaging your skin.

Nine minutes?

HAH!

I think that's a buncha hype they use to sell sunscreen.

Last year I got one of the worst sunburns in my life and I can't explain how it happened. I faithfully put on generous amounts of sunblock. On this one fishing trip we were headed right into a tornado warning. The sky looked suspicious and I turned on my weather radio and sure enough within a few miles of where we were at there was a tornado on the ground but we could see it was headed away from us. As soon as the storm cleared there was this dazzling sunlight. I had sunblock on all over me and I was wearing a tied dyed T shirt, mainly blue, purple and pink colored. When I got home I had an absolutely wicked sunburn UNDER the shirt. All of my exposed skin (arms, legs, face, neck) was fine. It was only UNDER the shirt where the burn was bad. My only explanation was that the colors of the shirt amplified the suns rays and the sunblock was useless under the shirt. I haven't worn that shirt since and no sunburn since. Sun is a DANGEROUS thing and for GOD's sake ALWAYS use sunblock. I recently bought these 2 huge sport umbrellas and set them up to give us a place to stay out of the sun. They're awesome protection. NO MORE SUNBURN FOR ME.
