I know how Craig loves my little down home stories, yet I simply can't pass up this opportunity to just chat off the cuff with you guys, sometimes, when the weird & strange happens...

It started out well enough.

Sunday, I took the family fishing up at the drummer's pond. On a whim, I made sure that we took a life jacket for little Jace. We got there, & the fishing wasn't going great. I wandered around the pond, with Jace at my side for awhile, then he wanted to go back to get his lil sippy cup. So, I escorted him back most of the way, & turned to go back to my spot, when, of course, I heard a splash.

Ian was around the far side of the pond, & Sue was pretty close to Jace. They all came running like they were scared to death. I yelled to them to slow down, cuz I didn't want Jace to panic. I calmly emptied my pockets as he thrashed for a second, then just froze as the jacket held him up in the cold water, & jumped into the water, where I took his hand. I made sure to laugh as I did so, more to ease his mind, than to make light of it all.

He responded pretty well, calming right down. the rest of the day, of course was spent trying to get most of the water shaken off so we could ride back home to change.

Lousy fishing day, for sure.

Then, my long-time customers of 8 years, or more, bounced a check to me. To further complicate things, they are in the middle of a separation. I couldn't get ahold of the wife, so I called the hubby, who paid me cash to cover the thing. Of course, my credit union doesn't give me checks, so I couldn't return it to him.

Yesterday, I got a call from the wife, who seems to think I'm trying to get paid twice from them, like I'm taking advantage of thier breakup or something. Nice, huh? I've always known that they were a suspicious lot, but I've always treated them fairly, even tossing in a few extras for free when I work for them cuz they're such regular customers.

I really hate to have my integrity questioned! That's something that just tweaks me, for some reason, & I always work to keep everything honest & in plain view.

So today I get to face her down. I'll go back to the credit union to make sure the check hasn't cleared, & if it has, then of course, I won't be able to return the cash to her, since it was the hubby that gave the cash to me. That'll make it look like I'm questioning HER integrity, won't it? Wheee! Ain't life FUN?

Also, yesterday morning my wife bent to pick something up & blew out her back. She's a miserable wretch when she gets to hurting.

This afternoon I get to go & work with Mr Perfect Musician, who talks to me in numbers instead of notes. "Go to the 6th, then the 2."

All I can say is - "What frikken key am I in today?"

Is it only Tuesday?

Yeah, but I don't have a problem with your threads or anyone else's. It was merely to make a point, that there are plenty of people who post non-musical threads here, so it is a bogus argument to somehow claim that I am personally making the forum non-musical.

See why freedom of speech is best?

Phil every week is hell week but I've had a doozy starting last Thursday when I went to a wedding (who has a wedding in the middle of the week? Cheapskates). Friday I played at a party, Saturday and Sunday I worked all day in the yard and got tired and sunburned. Apparently I'm terribly out of shape, my legs are so sore I can hardly walk. Too much sitting on my duff over the winter.

Well, at least I got the check sorted out. Hubby closed the joint account, after forging wifey's name, but didn't leave anything in the acct for me. I put the cash in the bank to cover the mess, but they wouldn't cash anything else from these folk without holding it for a cpl days, so I'm outta $ until at least Thur...no biggie, I guess. I got more work to do for the lady, too, so all would seem to be working out, for a change...

Practice went well. 'Twas just me & the guitarist, but I got the gist of this stuff, so I'll do well enough with the band either tomorrow nite or Fri, I'll wait for a call.

Sat's the 1st gig, if it doesn't rain. I ain't askeered, though some of this stuff is kinda strange, & I"ve never even heard it before.

I love when that happens, & I"m not being sarcastic. New stuff keeps me on my toes, & with Flamingo Road, I can play that stuff in my sleep after doing the same old for some 11 years. I got a line on a new band forming nearby, too, so I have hopes that there IS a future for me in music after all.

It's funny how you want to be older when you're a kid, then, you grow up and remember how easy and free it was to be a child. Man, I just hit with all these installation charges and I have no idea how I can pay these bills. I can't even pay my final payment of $100 bucks to get my future album cover painting. No rush though, I don't even have a band. And here I was planning on hiring people to play on the thing!

Hang in there Philby, everything has its way of working out. Try not to sprout any new grays. :)

WD 40 is a solvent not a lubricant.

Good point. Now maybe some of the "slower" readers will go back to using Vaseline.

I officially apologize for using wd40 on a pistol..

Ok, can I rejoin the NRA now? Hmm please Slacker? as if I'd ask ...

If you don't own a gun stfu. And if you can't shoot it, that's 2x.

To date there's only a few people here that can shoot that I know of..and you weren't one of them.

PS: Why do you play a strat with a tele neck>? That's just bass-ackwards.

I had to laugh about the numbers, Phil. I've been studying a number system like that. It's actually pretty cool-but nearly impossible to use on rock music. I've even had a difficult time applying it to my own songs.

CS,

Lesson # 1 Listen and learn.

To stay alive. Don't assume that someone can't shoot. In fact, assume everyone can shoot better than you. Take heed to that advice and you may live a bit longer if the air in the USA ever becomes bullet infested.

And the NRA will let about anyone join, so you're safe. Unless your moneys isn't any good.

About tele necks on Strats. I always thought Tele's were one of the ugliest guitars ever made. Even though I owned two of them. On the other hand, I really thought the Strat headstock was cool looking.
When I found this really hot Birdseye Maple neck I had to get it even if it was a tele neck, For those that don't know, you can put a tele neck on a Strat, but you can't put a Strat neck on a Tele. Because of the contour routing of neck pocket.

So since I knew it would work on my Strat, I bought it. And after I looked at it for a while, I really liked it, and Tele neck addiction set in. Besides, the mass of a headstock changes the sound of a guitar slightly. And I like how they sound. Now I always look for Tele necks first for my Strats. I found three really good looking Birdseye Maple Strat necks along the way and they went on a few of my other Strats. There is an added benefit to all that. If a musician comes across someone selling a hot Strat real cheap with a Tele neck on it, someone might remember the guitar a little better. But no matter. I take Macro shots of the odd figures in the wood grain to identify them if they ever go to a pawn shop without me.

I'd really hate to see anyones panties in a bunch over that cause I don't believe I'm likely to change my evil ways. Actually I couldn't even sleep at night if I thought for a moment that someones little pink squishy feelings were bruised by my reckless guitar neck choices.

Now this is really upsetting. I have a Warmoth SG body with a Tele neck on it too. I named it Stelle. I'm still not sure how even I feel about that.

I can and do shoot. Thousands of rounds a year. (sometimes a month)
I have also worked as a gunsmith and seen the results that using a solvent to clean without using and inhibitor afterward can cause.
I have used WD40 on my guns before and as long as it's something you stay on top of you can get away with it.
Fact is damn few people, even weapons enthusiasts like myself service their firearms frequently and rust can do irreparable damage not just esthetically but especially to the mechanism.

My favorite solvent is Hoppe's #9. It is the only thing I will put into the bore or chambers of my weapons. (unless I need a specific copper or lead solvent for a neglected bore)
Lubrication is Break Free CLP and also to clean the rest of the weapon.
Occasionally a touch of graphite grease on the bearing surface of the actions.

Not that anyone cares.
