Well, we showed up for our gig last night well in time to set up, it's a local eatery with a large tent outside, where they serve crawfish among other things.

With all the rain, there was water all over the floor, a large puddle (bigger than a car) at the front entrance about 3 inches deep, water pouring all over the electrical outlets, (all outside the framework) so we decided playing was unsafe and a bad idea. electrocution and all that...

So went inside to tell the owner's wife (B$TCH) we wouldn't chance it.

She told me (quote) "I'll make sure you NEVER play here again and we'll tell ALL our friends about you." I told her OK, we just think it's unsafe, water all over the floor and the electrical outlets, she said "It ain't gon' hurt nuttin" (HUH???) and we didn't expect to see anyone wade through the water to get in anyway, that would just cost them money so it was in our better interest and his to not play. She repeated herself, in a very snotty, rude manner, told me she would make sure we never play there again, I said OK, fine, and walked out. I made damn sure I was cordial and did not return her anger and rudeness, I simply said OK fine and left.

So it looks like we don't have that gig anymore, but what the hey, there are other places to play and she's been a bitch all along, other musicians have confirmed that too. Her husband, the owner, is very nice, liked us and has treated us well, but I think if he calls us back I'll tell him no way I'll put up with her after the way I was treated.

She could have simply been decent, told me they probably wouldn't be hiring us, I wouldn't have minded. Instead she was very rude and snotty, I'll be telling everyone I know to stay away from there from now on.

Sometimes that's the best thing you can do, Billy. Anything else just works against you.

I take it had you all died through electrocution she would indeed have been telling all of her friends about you. Geesh.....

Well the elctrocution would have been a good show heh heh...

But seriously, it happens to everyone, just move on. Think about having acoustic work-ups of your tunes so you could just go unplugged. That way at least you play.

That is a good practical idea Jimmy.
We made an attempt to "convert" lol.... some of our music into an acoustic set for quieter venues. Just did not work well with the majority of our tunes.
I,m sure Billy could pull it off, be a mean trick for his partner though.

No joke...electronic drums and keyboard bass would be hard to pull off for sure, I'm not sure Randy can play a conventional bass at all...

I'm not too worried about this, there are other places to play, so I just plan to move on to bigger and better things. We didn't make great money there anyway. But it was regular every week and it sucks to lose a regular gig. But we don't plan to let it slow us down, I think Randy was out talking to other clubs soon as we left. I'm certainly not happy about it, but I don't plan to let it get me down.

And by the way I forgot to mention that his feet got soaked when he went inside, so he wasn't too eager to play all night to begin with and I don't blame him. My father dragged me through the woods with soaking wet feet for hours too many times, and didn't care, I know exactly how miserable that is...

anyway I just thought I would relate the story here, if nothing else for the entertainment value. I'm sure I'm not the only one on Bandmix that's had a similar escapade.

Great(?) story. You handled pretty well, by your account. I've personally dealt with unreasonable club owners too many times. I can't help noticing that all of them who are as bad as the lady you were dealing with are no longer club owners...

I would have set everything up and then have HER test everything to make sure nobody got electrocuted...

And I would have busted up her hubby so bad he would have needed pins in his arms and legs.

I don't know about your amp(s), but mine are mostly over 100watt.

Now I know amperage is what kills, but I guess what I am saying is that just about any of my amps would kill if you mix water into the equation.

Yes, it's true that current (amperage) is what kills.

So, let's see....

100 watts. Watts = Volts x Amps. So, Amps = Watts / Volts. We know that the volts are going to be around 120. So, Amps = 100/120, around .83.

Half an amp will kill you (actually, I think it's 100 milliamps or about a tenth of an amp).

My point here is that, yes, current is what kills, but current is a function of the other bits in the equation. I've talked to people who are quickly lulled into a false sense of security because "Well, that's a lot of volts (watts) but it's current that kills".

That's a good way to wind up dead.

BTW: the average household circuit will easily deliver 1800 watts or around 15 amps to a dead short. You know, like submersing your amp in water.

Get pictures of the puddles? I'd return the favor by warning other musicians that the owner of the place you were going to play is unfair and wanted you to play in unsafe conditions.

I love how they threatened him as well and you know they knew all the time that someone might get barbecued..
