Iggy Pop Honored as Living Legend

Iggy Pop is mostly known for being the controversial frontman for the rock group The Stooges, but now he’s being called a living legend. All those years of off the wall antics along with his great music has earned Iggy the prestigious title from the Marshall Classic Rock and Roll of Honor Awards.

Last night at the Park lane Hotel in London, an awards ceremony took place to honor some of the brightest and best in the classic rock and roll field. Iggy Pop along with Queen guitarist Brian May, Slash, Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, The Who guitarist Pete Townsend and ZZ Top rocker Billy Gibbons were all honored for their groundbreaking influences in music.

Iggy is known for being very open with his fans, and by open a mean showing his bits in pieces while onstage, so when he accepted his award he had to take a little jab at himself in the process.

Iggy said: ‘It’s been a long dinner, so I’m not gonna whip out my d**k. Alright, you know, thank you to everybody who has strong feelings about music so that when you hear something you don’t like you wanna f**king kill somebody and when you hear something you like you wanna f**k everybody.’
He also dedicated his award to Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton, who tragically past away last year. Here’s the full list of winners from this year’s ceremony.

Jim (Iggy) is indeed a living legend. I met him many years ago and recorded two CD's with his drummer Scott Asheton. I tried to get Ron to play on them (I offered him $1000) but he declined.

Hopefully we'll see the Stooges with James Williamson on guitar next year.

I dunno about that guy...ain't he the heroin addict what used to go around slopping peanut butter on ppl's foreheads & saying "God bless you," or somesuch?

Never understood the appeal...& I've been threatened for my opinion of this guy, but it hasn't changed yet!

Wow!

That's cool Jimmy!

Where are these CD's?

Are any of these, ones you uploaded here?

He's been clean for many years now, he doesn't drink or do drugs. "Raw Power" is one the greatest rock & roll records ever made, with "Fun House" close behind.

No, a label in LA wanted to publish them but they wanted us to change the name of the band and I declined. They promptly dropped us.

A couple of the tunes can be found at www.myspace.com/thefarleys. If interested I can get you copies.

Guess I never been that familiar with him or his work. Always though it was some kind of soda.

That's a shame George, most people regard him as "the godfather of punk" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iggy_Pop . His music changed my life. I remember thinking the first time I saw them that I was seeing the future. I went to the after-concert bash and partied with him; his entourage all looked like David Bowie (he was hanging with Bowie at the time). Sure enough a few years later punk became a movement. Many years later I got to meet and record with his drummer, Scott "Rock Action" Asheton. Iggy's a very intelligent guy who loves to discuss politics and religion; he'd fit in well here lol.

I dont see it as a shame Jimmy, after all, one reason I am here is for my musical edimification from folk like yourself with a different background than I.
See I am learning teacher! 8)

I agree JD, but IMHO I'd switch the order

Craig: Yep that's me.

Dajax: You're not alone, a lot of people prefer "Fun House", but I just prefer James over Ronnie, I play more like him.

You humble son of a gun!

I should have known.

I wore your CD's out for a good while there. I need to find them again... we moved and I think they are in storage. We don't have our permanent place yet.

hey, i bought a 'greatest hits' of his a few years back. on it were "china girl" and "the passenger".

i knew bowie's much more popular (thanks to MTV) "china girl", and siouxsie and the banshees' "passenger". were iggy's the original of each? if so, never knew that.
bauhaus did a few decent covers of iggy pop's.
