I don't think it matters in the least if you have a PC or a MAC.
.
But - what DOES matter is your internet habits, and what should be your normal computer-housekeeping.
.

Very true. I'm running win 2000 and no antivirus, nothing has hit me in years. I also use Linux a lot, love it but it does have software insufficiencies. On my windows machines I just try to be careful online, and I guess being a computer tech for 10 years helps, since I Know what to look out for., I've fixed and/or rebuilt dozens of virus infested machines, it's usually a result of being careless or uninformed.

Sometimes I also use a few Linux live CD's, pop in the CD and you boot into Linux and it never touches the hard drive. The newer versions are very good at picking up wireless, and many have the Firefox browser, which I use exclusively on Windows. Internet exploder is never EVER opened...in fact I remove all IE icons so nobody can use it on my machine, Firefox only.

BUT...DO NOT try to uninstall Internet Explorer, it's too tightly integrated into Windows, chances are you'll crash Windows trying to uninstall IE. Leave it there, just don't use it. IE is a virus magnet.

let me just say... if you install norton on your pc you might as well get a virus because of nortons crappy architecture and how it slows down everything in the first place.

have bit defender... runs very light and I'm quite happy with the new version.
I'm going to stop short of telling you what I do but I will say I do things that should give me virus's... scan exe files b4 you run them. it's as simple as that.

my co-workers don't even run virus protection... just a firewall. and if you don't regularly download questionable material, and you seek the source on legit software you need... it works for them.

I've read that macs aren't any more resistant to virus's... it's just that very few biz solutions are built around macs... and hence there are just fewer macs out there... and less ppul interested in infecting them.

I seem to recall a contest where hackers tried to break into several laptops... the mac was the first one cracked in almost every case.

it's expensive, it is not modular, and my pc can run several tracks of audio w no probs... so whats the point unless you do graphics?

linux works well but then so does windows... if you know what you are doing.

I suppose its just about your cup of tea but mine doesn't cost anything.
Linux can Crack windows just by loading a Live Linux Cd. Safe isn't it. :D I'm just interested in Linux frankly so I am completely biased and always will be, I created a Video last night and uploaded it using Linux, again free, (Youtube).

My Studio will revolve around Linux (Sometime VERY soon) as does my hosting server using Unix. My DVD player at home which serves up films runs Linux, probably more things that you know do too?

Xruns can be a problem when recording using Linux but these are nailed in later issues of this software in some distros.

Anyway most people are right here. If you use your PC as a tool then don't muck with it Windows or not. If you like paying a kid to come round and sort it out for you each time you do screw it up then fine. XP will die out soon. I'm not certain they will allow re-registrations if you've re-installed it at that time or not? (Not looked, don't care). But if they don't then you'll be using windows 7, then 8 and so on.

I'm not trying to convince anyone, (Kinda nice sitting outside the box) everyone has the freedom of choice, mine is and will be Linux, it's free.

Just my Popular tuppence..

Keep well.
