Gravy Diver Band wrote:Don't you hate a guitar player who "wrote a new song" and recorded it with a drum track in his basement? STOP IT! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, STOP IT!

Hate him? Hell, I AM him. :) Now get off my back and come down here and play real drums on my tracks for me. I can't seem to get a drummer to just come over and have fun writing songs in my studio.

And about that "other" pic in your profile... the yellow thingy. I wonder how many on here think it's a celtic symbol and don't know that without it, a bunch of us "old farts" would have had a hard time listening to some of our favorite tunes. :)

I don't know... I guess I probably suck by the standards of most of you guys.

I don't read music, and I don't know what to call various types of beats. I mostly play straight forward, basic rock, and by-ear at that. Usually, I just listen to what the guitarist starts playing, and I just start playing along. Sometimes, if it's a song I know by say... NIRVANA or STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, I actually know exactly what to play.

I can't really do solos that amount to anything, I play no other instrument, and I can't sing. If I played anything else, it would be bass, because I love a good, strong bassline. Twenty years of speedy hardcore/punk taught me to love the bass guitar.

I love RUSH, but cannot begin to play most RUSH songs.

So, I guess I pretty much suck. :P

I'd rather play with someone who knows he sucks than someone who thinks he's as good as Neil Pert. Knowing ones limitations only allows them to become much better at what their doing.

Its another day in Paradise !!!

To be completely honest some of the most rewarding times came with people who didn't think they were great or special at all.

I'm with Chippy.

Give me a boob with desire, the ability to play well with others and you have something special.

Caused quite a stir this thread and some replies didn't it. :D

Only live once, enjoy it. That's what music to me at least is for, that and meeting nice people that won't let you down.

HOw did your tunafinger drummer know the songs you're playing for your other band?

Yeah, I do that on purpose. Lots of questions to what that is. If they don't know..I really don't want to jam with them.
Seems like "fast" is all they care about these days...no soul.

Heck, I would love to put a drum track down to anyone's original.
Drum practice sucks! It's boring.
I work pretty well with other players by not stepping on their toes.
I'm not a fancy player, but I like to stay solid and deliver when called out.
I used to get the jobs over the overplaying legends-in-their-own-mind.

My idea of working up an original is to start with a catchy hook or structure from the guitarist. Work with the bass player getting the backbone. Then I was the one who had to come up with the lyrics.
I hear those songs now and they s-u-c-k.
That ,to me, is the most difficult part.
Lyrics are the hardest part, to me. I just got stuck with it.

Try not to just rhyme WORDS, BUT, SAYING SOMETHING EVERYONE CAN RELATE TO.
Hats off to the writers.

My point I was trying to make was...Electronic drums suck. Hand that to a guy and say.."this is what I am looking for" and you'll get a song with no soul.
Play a little to a drummer and let him jam along and you'll get a better product. I'll bet your song takes on a new life.

I say, get some players, and construct the song together.
If they can't understand your translation.... demote them to beer runner or something.
** I do understand the difficulty of the chore of getting a professional practice or jam session!

Great job recognizing the 45 RPM insert. I like to confuse the younger players who think it is from some DEVIL THRASH BAND. Ha-ha!

Good eye! Rock on!
Remember - OLD FARTS LINGER LONGEST!

That's the beauty part, Frank had never heard The Farleys material before the day he did the gig. I gave him some CDs, he listened to one CD one time and nailed it. What a pro. The problem is we would have to pay him, he's in it for $$.

Drummers are the backbone of most decent bands, and the driving rytham behind most music that is played in modern times.
