General Music Chat

This is one of the acoustic songs I recently recorded. This is called Mama Always Said I Was A Little Crazy.

Recorded live using 2 mics on the guitar and a line out of my Cort. For vocals we used an SM 57. No overdubs, no click just hit record and went for it. Listen to the lyrics, there is some funny stuff in this one if you listen. We splashed a little reverb on it.

I will try to get a few more up over the next few days, kind of a change from some of my more rocking stuff.

Damn nice job. I think a bit less of the line signal and a bit more of the mic signal would sound better, and it almost sounds like the gain on the l ine signal was too high, causing distortion. If you had the volume control on the guitar all the way up, try it about halfway, my Takamine sounds a lot better with the volume under about 7. Once I get it close to full volume it tends to break up easier. Acoustics usually sound best through a mic, you migh try it with only the mic and see, it shotuld get a good acoustic sound that way.

Couldn't tell the effects were there, a little delay on the vocals might make a huge difference. Like the lyrics, some good stuff there, and it sounds like about half rock half country. Good song, I'd like to hear it with a little polish and just a mic on the guitar. If it will work, open chords might also sound better. True, the main riff would be more difficult to play, and might not work at all with open chords, but I've always tried to stick to open chords as much as possible with the acoustic, it just has a better sound.

Overall, a good effort, can't wait to hear the Cort through just a mic, from what I can here on this one it's a pretty good sounding axe.

Fun stuff, JW. The only thing I see is that you say stuff is "kinda crazy" in the verses, and then you say "Mama always said I was kinda crazy" too. I think for that line you should use the title and say, "Mama always said I was a little bit crazy". Other than that, it shines.

Good tune. It might be a tad too long, though. You get your point across early on, lyrically. You could drop the verse where your mamma finds you out in the rain, & not lose anything in this. I love the lil weird growl at the start, & it's got a good bridge, too. You sound as if you don't feel comfortable singing & strumming at the same time...

JW, Thats crazy. LOL thats funny, any man that has been through a divorce can sure relate to that first verse HaHa! You do have a Texas accent, no pun intended.

That's great, man. I also felt it might be a little too long, but I'm glad I listened to all of it-that monologue part ("It's not you, it's me") about had me doubled over laughing! Good job!

Thanks for the comments guys. If I revisit this song I will take some of your advice on things to do with the song. This was written while I was doing about 20 duo or solo gigs in Aug, Sept and Oct and just reflects where my head was on a few things at the time. I went in and recorded around 20 songs covers and originals from what I was doing and this was one of them. I will try to post some more over the next few days.

Its kind of a reality song, everything in there is either real or imaginary at the time. Divorce and meeting new women and getting shot down.
