Well I got an e-mail, then a week later a call from song placement's
they made it sound... well like everything I need; They offered access to management, publishing, booking, agencies ect. ect.
I checked out some of the articles that they posted as about their company. They were Wikipedia articles on musicians they are supposedly working with that made no mention of them.
Then I went to one of their "big" client's myspace page and it was deleted.
I went to another one and they had around as many plays as I have on mine but only 400 or so fan's.
It seems that the only articles on their company were press releases that they placed themselves.
I asked the rep if they made all of their income through the artist's subscriptions.. he said yes, then he said they have other sources of income within the industry.

One thing... it sound very similar to the company's bio that invited me to join their same type of company for no fee just a few weeks earlier.

I want to believe that they are legit and can supply the services that I need so desperately, but am fully aware that passionate desperate artist's are an easy mark and just don't feel good about the deal.

P.S. when first contacted my friend who signed with them was told that 2 known large companies were interested in his music. it's been over a month so why haven't they contacted him yet? not that things happen in a hurry but in the business tv and film productions have deadlines and "they" do move along pretty quickly to my understanding.

still pondering

Hey everyone, I'm new to the group and having read through all the correspondence, felt like I'd throw my hat in with my experiences.

I haven't worked with either the Hitt Music Group, or Song Placements, though I have had numerous calls and email correspondence with both. I've currently been talking with Song Placements and, knowing how they work, just trying to find out if they would entertain any other such deal than the pay up front model, which they vehemently indicate, is their business model and must not be deviated from.

In any case, I am choosing not to deal with them. I have two albums of original material and one album of Beatles cover tunes out there, all of which are on a website called, music supervisor. (musicsupervisor.com) This website offers the standard sort of deal where if your music gets placed, they take a cut, and you get a cut. I was recommended to them from the music supervisor at Fox music. I don't know that person personally, just heard him speak at a panel at the Midpoint music festival.

Now, have I made any money that way yet? Nope. Have music supervisors listened to the material. Yup, hundreds of times, and a few tracks have been downloaded which usually indicates that they thought about it. Since I didn't get paid, ultimately I know they changed their minds. I'll keep my fingers crossed that at some point the law of averages kicks in and a song gets placed, but until then, I'll keep putting my new cataloge up there and refining my craft.

Alan, I do wish you the best of luck, and I hope that you'll keep us all posted on your successes should they come, from that company. You're right that the music industry is changing dramatically, and I don't know of anyone yet who claims to know the new model for the biz. I would venture to guess though, that it will largely fall onto the artists shoulders to be more entrepreneurial with their material, and money, which is exactly what you have done here as far as I can see.
