Alan, didn't you say that you didn't receive any notification for when they first got your copywrite applications? Or that it took forever? Or am I having a senior moment? :)

Can I step in?
I know I didn't and I did it the easy way. What is it that people do in offices anyway?

I cannot find work yet those that do have it do nothing. There is a moral there somewhere. Pennies for choice, choices are to be made carefully.

I hold the copyrights in hand for my first 43 songs.
.
They were all dated about 2 days after I mailed them, or - the day they received them at the Library of Congress.
.
I have a group of 10 songs I mailed in, on 7-25-2008, for which I still haven't received the copyright paperwork.
.
The delay is unbelievable. I'll be expecting to get the paperwork early next year, sometime. If tradition holds true, the copyrights will be dated 7-27-08.
.
I also have since done my copyrighting online.
I get an aknowlegement, and a submission number - within 10 minutes.
Paperwork? Anybodie's guess, but they tell me the delay is over 18 months . . .

So, Alan, when you send it online, do you send charted music and lyrics, or musical scores, or mp3's?

They just asked me for the mp3 file Rat. After they send the (AUTO) confirmation Email there is that last step of sending them your work.

Alan 18 months is the term of two children. Makes me truly wonder how long it takes to seal an envelope.

Cool, thanks for the info, much appreciated! :D

Wow that's a long time! I don't think I realized it could take so long. I appreciate the info. Very helpful! Does it work the same for lyrics as well as the music??

I completely feel you! I've worked on so many projects in the studio it's not even funny. Had one guy working on a deal with Sony Music and tried to shaft me (deal didn't work out HA!) and the others were just us working together trying to help each other come up. Ended up relocating and ya ya ya....I'm so passionate about my music it's really starting to kill me that I've not progressed the way I want ot. Hang in there! We're gonna make it!! :D

When I copyright online, I send Mp3s and lyrics.
If you want to send music scores, they'll accept that, too, but you def. want to send an mp3.
.
I believe you'll find the same delay if you're submitting only lyrics.
.
What irritates me is that there is no excuse for the delay.
All they have to do is file the song, and fill out the paper work.
They don't even listen to it - all they have to do is mark it & put it in a box, or a computer folder.
18 months to do that . . .
I'm sure that there are 50,000 people who are out of work who would be more than willing to work there, and speed things up . . .

My brother in law used to work at the Library of Congress, in the copyright dept.

If all of their employees are like him, I'm not surprized at the delay.

He's an asshole.

Well, I'm a dollar short and a day late, as usual. For anyone wondering, HP stands for "horrible performance." :( Getting ready to ship this piece of crap out for the third time in as many months.

By the way, I have two cd's...both studio works. Started #3 early this year until getting sidetracked by a crappy band project (I know, I know, I was warned! ).

Spoke with the owner / engineer of Audio Heaven Studio today.
Seemed like a real nice guy on the phone. Gave me a check list of basic pre studio preperations to do at home so I labled the file Preperation H. LOL
Same basic info I've gotten here. Appointment to meet him and tour the studio, hear some of his demos set for Monday.
Should have at least a Demo CD before too awfull long now.
Soon as I do I'll post some, if not all of it.
