Miggie Lou wrote:Thanks for the advice Gals and Fellas! I guess the only way to see if I can handle it, is to try it. Everything’s going good so far and I'm going to continue to work on my own individual songs and music. Both bands are pretty fresh and were still working on names/set lists. Its just weird dealing with total opposite personalities from the band members. The R&B/Soul band (mostly female musicians and backup singers) is strict on drinkin/smokin before gigs, they have none of it. And I see why because I have to belt out songs by Stevie Wonder and Beyonce. I have to keep the pipes smooth. But the Tool/Incubus band goes with the flow on everything. Hell they don’t even start playing until they’ve had a case of beer in them lol but they are amazing musicians so I figure that’s their call. In a weird way I love playing two different personalities! I think all people have two different sides to them so getting to actually act and sing it out is lots of fun. :D

Most definitely agree. However, if you hafta take something in order to perform, something ain't right. I don't care what music you are playing...you gotta have your faculties about you.

Mig,

My main band Aint Yo Mama is a hard rock cover party band. I do an acousticy solo thing playing the standard stuff plus I play original country singer songwriter type stuff. Ive gotten involved with a blues rock thing that is going to play every couple of monthes. Plus I have a friend who does Karoake and he brings me in to liven things up a bit. I know most people that are into music dont like Karoake but I embrace that also. The other night I was doing stuff like All I Wanna Do, Your No Good and You Outta Know just to see if I could pull them off. I get to try songs outside the box and some of them I add to my own songs.

I think as a musician we should embrace different forms. Ive done Blue Grass Gospel, Gospel and Christian Rock(I think on my player here I have the song The Day That Jesus died), Ive done R&B Funk also. I still havent done the Disco thingie yet but if the chance arises Im all for it. Ive done a little country also. Doing different styles expands my musical vocabulary.

So I would encourage anyone that considers themselves a MUSICIAN to try it all. New styles or genres come from stretching yourself.

Good Luck Mig in whatever you do!
