You know I've seen vids simular while working for Mobil.
We'd all get a good laugh and go back to work.
The day I picked my gangpushers fingers out of a shieve we did not laugh, until after we got him to the hospital.
The day the 880 volt pumping unit short, knocked me six feet into a fence was not real funny either.

Ive been working in an industrial environment for nearly four decades and am happy to say I've managed to stay in one piece.

However, I still wear a large scar on my right shin, the result of tripping over a misplaced speaker cabinet carrying equipment out of a beer joint after a gig!

I'll tell you something kinda embarassing, HJ.

I was working on a deck, & had to swing the hammer at a weird angle. I set the nail, overswung & nicked it. It really did fly up & hit my eye. I felt this painful pressure & raised my hands to my face, but at the last second, for some reason, I had the wherewithall to CUP my face instead of clapping my hands to my eyes. That was very fortunate. My eyes were tearing up badly, & I slowly peeked out to see this huge telephone pole coming out on my nose next to my left eye. That freaked me out, I gotta tell ya! As I moved my hands, I found that the nail was still there, stuck in there somehow. At 1st I thought I had busted something inside it, like my retina or something. I remember that when I touched it, it rocked & actually applied this sickening pressure on my eyeball. Finding that nail sticking out of my eye socket was just so ookie that I gripped it in my fingertips & flung it out before I even thought about it, & I think there might have even been a girly little squeek involved.

I was very fortunate, though. The nail had slipped in beside my eye. I went to the hospital to find that I hadn't done so much as scratch the cornea. I was perfectly fine. Extremely lucky not to have done much worse, esp when you consider that it was a 16 penny galvanized with all that gloppy flaky coating with lots of sharp edges. Yanking it out like I did wasn't the smartest thing I ever did, either, but it worked that time.

I kept thinking that if I'd clasped my face, I could have driven the thing right into my brain or something...

Or into the cavity where it would be rattling around and setting off metal detectors at the airport. :)

Close call man.

I was opening a 5 galon can of Go Jo to clean up before the safety meeting at the gas plant where I worked back in 82.
As I cut the last tab my pocket knife closed and cut my little finger to the bone. ( I dont carry a dull knife )
I sat thought the whole meeting with the female operator holding pressure on the cut. Then went home after the meeting.
No one ever said anything or even asked about it.

Safety first !!

I will no longer carry a knife that the blade does not lock on. Ever!!

Actually , that corny assed video really did give me the shudders, as did Phil's story of the nail in the eye.

I was extra careful around those lathes today at work!

Years back, I recall a guy at work who was lifting a steel grate out of a slurry pit with an overhead bridge crane, and his finger got caught between the hook and the grate! OUCH! That finger quickly took on a two dimensional form.

Another time, a guy was descending from an industrial straddle carrier (the driver seat is about eight feet off the ground) . He lost his footing and caught his wedding ring on a small projection welded on the side of the carrier. That ring literally ripped his finger right of the bone!
