My review of 'groove':

Overall, it doesn't sound bad. It does go on much too long for what little material is there. Some of the notes on the soloing sound sour with what the organ is doing. There isn't much variation, as you know, which hurts the listen in the long run (three and a half minutes is too long). The drum track sounds cheesy but that will be repaired with the recording of a live kit. It doesn't come across as original to me - I've heard similar songs from countless amateurs (amateurs can be very talented musicians so no offense, I just mean not signed to a label) over the years. I don't know how to make it more of a 'MikeV' song, though... Whatever that is...

Thanks for the review davis. I know it's tuff for you to write anything that could be mistaken as possitive(lol) so I'll keep that in mind. No offence on the amateur remark... if I wasn't an "amateurs" I'm guessing I would have little need for posting music here on this site at all, let alone looking for feedback.

I hear ya on the sour notes too... it's technically within key, but it depends on the key your hearing it in. the keyboard riff is comprised three three-note chords, which actually opens up the key for improvisation in several scales/key centers... but my note choice is a bit dossonent on this one, and I can see how it might seem 'sour' to your ear. Perhaps I need to add something that would tell a bit more about the key i'm in when i'm in it.
Thanks again for listening!

Jesus... I just realized I sound like Simon from American Idol in my critique haha. The track really does sound good; the guitar solo is definitely in key, I just didn't think it melded well in a few areas - doesn't ruin it or anything. I thought the last one, Shithouse Blues, came across more as a Mike V song just because it had your sense of humor in it. But your improvising is very good and the organ sounds great. I've heard a few different styles from you - is this the sound you'd like your band to play? Or do you want your group to play a wide range of music and not conform to just one genre?

I'm expecting you to have a field day when I finally upload some audio. Hopefully I'll be able to post soon - I just need to purchase something to record tracks. If not it will just be me and my guitar, playing my songs in their most rudimentary form. I can't believe my computer didn't even come with a simple mic - what's the world coming to?
