Women are like chimps! WOW, im going to ask some of my friend gals that and see what it gets me.

I have played in storage facilitys over the years. I think I know what Ryan has going on is finding the right combination of people to move forward. If Ryan was actively gigging with anyone he wouldnt have the time to play in different groups like that. Ive done this myself thru the years. Theres nothing that odd about people playing in a storage complex in my band. WOuld I go to one. No Ive been there and done that, but I dont think at his age that would stop me.

I currently have 2 things going on myself, but Ive made it very plain to everyone where my loyaltys lie. Most of the active musicians I know play in multiple bands. A few weeks ago I was checking out a group that a friend of mine plays guitar in. I was commenting that the bassist was awesome. Turns out that he is the current guitar player for Public Enemy. He had just come back from Japan doing some shows w PE, and I saw him playing bass in a 100 seat club. This guy also has his own thing going, a jazz/fusion thing called SOLSTICE. So playing in different groups is really not the big of a problem.

2 years ago I auditioned for a group that included a firemen. Guy was really nice and had an airconditioned/heated studio above his garage. He really wanted me to join his group, but he wanted me as Bob said to be totally dedicated to his outfit and be at his beckon and call, real stringent practice schedule. I came in and played 80% of their songlist without knowing what they were doing. They just happened to be playing stuff that I knew. Anyway in the end I bowed out of this deal. I ran into a friend who knows him and said hes having major problems keeping folks together. I said how many gigs have they done since I was over there. He says he didnt know if they had done any yet. Now what would have happened to me if I had said yes I will dedicate myself to your fantastic band. Ive played around 40 gigs with my main band and 10 w other things Im involved in over the past couple of years. The guy is a drummer if it matters to anyone. I mean I understand the idea of being dedicated to one project but for myself as a musician I need more than one setlist. I feel I am developing as a musician. I mentioned before that this guy was a fireman with weird work schedules. I really dont think if he can hold a group together long enough he will ever do many gigs. I was in a group w a air traffic controller years ago and the other guy worked these weird shifts at a can factory. We might go a month without seeing each other, much less doing gigs.

So I would add if you are playing w folks find out what their real jobs are. If theyve got a job with changing shift structures and dont know what their schedule is a month or two on out how are they really going to play in an active band.

A lot of musicians I met, in my opinion will never get out of the garage, theres nothing wrong with that but its jsut true. I hear a lof groups playing out that should not be playing out. Sorry I can hear off tempo out of tune guitars, and it drives me crazy. Then they always ask how do I sound. In my case I never ask cause I know how my band sounds and if something is sucking we either drop it or address it before the next gig.

People record yourselfs and listen to what you really sound like and ask the question would I pay for this? If not get back to the drawing board.

Alright Ive ranted enough here, NEXT!
