No one's disputing that it may have inspired it, but copied is a silly way to put it. Inspired like all songs b4 it inspired it... all the way back to the caveman song and the bone player named ugg. so to give credit for it to muddy or ug is kinda silly, me thinks. To say it is 'nothing more than' the blues is a trivialization of it that A. is not valid and B. would suggest a lack of musical understanding of it and C. would then support the idea that all things that inpired it deserve credit for it and that it was some sort of copy of the original, when in fact it is the next incantation of it. not a copy but a development... the next step in the development. there are only seven chord families(in wester music) so there is NO STEALING, COPYING, ETC. It's a cheap attempt to explain the mass appeal of an artist, and somehow devalue it as a work of art or contender for the title of R&R kingship. So sure, muddy inspired it, bethoven inspired it, ug inspired it... that doesn't make them the king of R&R, a performer, or even a contender.
