My lens of reality says we have BIG problems that ARE NOT anything but our own fault. Disease or no disease, our "civilization" is anything but civilized based on how we treat this Earth and each other. Despite whatever diseases they may have had, the indigenous people in North America got along far better with this Earth than the invading white men.

WTF Bob? I'm sorry to rant buddy, but I really have had it up to here with being crapped on for being north american and white. Bob, do you have native blood, and a chip on your shoulder, or are you white with a sense of guilt for what your ancestors did? You know I just try to get by one day at a time. I have enough goddamn problems to worry about in the present tense without having to hear about my "raping, and pillaging" great great great grandfathers.

No, I have no native blood. I'm 3/4 Russian and 1/4 English. No I don't have any guilt for what our ancestors did. We can't go back and change history unfortunately. I get really pissed off when I hear anybody talk about reparations for slavery. My ancestors were in Europe and had nothing to do with slavery. Those living today also had nothing to do with slavery. Maybe we'll never be able to extricate ourselves from this mess we've ALL gotten ourselves into. Maybe what we CAN do is look at the way people used to live in harmony with the Earth and try and incorporate some of those ideas, if possible, into our present-day society. However I'm afraid that the obliteration of native cultures was so complete that the majority of it was lost forever. Man CANNOT by definition get away from nature. We HAVE to get back to a simpler way of life. We CANNOT exist in a vacuum. In the process of industrialization we will create a race of humans that CANNOT exist without artificial interference. We all think that genetic research may produce wonderful cures for almost every known disease but in the process it may produce a race of humans who cannot survive without medical intervention. Imagine being born and not being able to survive without taking some genetic drug. This is I'm afraid what we are headed for. All of our wonderful modern conveniences, all of our labor saving creations, all of our "civilized" aspirations are going to lead to a race of helpless, feeble humans who CANNOT survive in the natural world.

I want to get in this conversation, but I'll let the blues do the talking for me, and take a chill pill.
