What equipment? You need some software and a sound card.

PRO studio ?

WTF.. You must not know how to use the software.

Any moron can get good quality recording from software..(whistling)

Studio is just for those who are aching to throw away their cash.

If you have some songs that are really ready to be recorded then go pro.

I think you have recorder youve been using so far for song ideas and such. Get your group to sit back and listen to them and decide a couple to get done right. I love working with someone who really knows what they are doing. All I have to do is tune my guitar and play. Ussually for my recordings I do everything in a couple of takes and then sit around listening to them tweak it and mix it for hours. Bores me to death.

Studio is for those who don't want to invest the time and money on getting the software and learning how to use it. Software in the right hands can get studio quality recording, but there is almost as much to learn in order to achieve that quality. Software alone works great for individuals or bands that are willing and able to put their music down one or two tracks at a time, but if you want to record the whole band at once and be able to edit each instrument on a separate track, you'll need a good USB mixer or multi input soundcard. This costs more money. You'll also need a fast PC and most standard PC's aren't set up for great recording, so you'll need to upgrade yours hoping to bring it up to par, maybe finding out it still won't cut the mustard, so you'll end up buying a new one. This costs more money. By this time, you may have spent enough money to have bought an all in one 8-track recorder which has a learning curve all it's own. And so on...
What I'm getting at is that some people aren't cut out to do their own recording and, no matter how much you spend, you won't get a satisfactory recording out of it and you're better off letting the Pros do it and pay them. On the other hand, some people take to it like a duck to water and get a great recording with a minimal set up.
To each his own. But, if you are going to pay someone else to record it for you, shop around. A lot of the big studios charge a lot because they have lots of equipment they have invested in. Most of the time you're paying for stuff that they won't even use on your project. You may find someone with a home studio that can do you a really good job for much less.

I thought I already said almost that.. lol

If you like to layer. If you are writing ALL the music. If it's a more solo thing for an artist.. The software is exactly what you eluded to.

Otherwise you use the studio..as it records all influences/nuances at once where the software may have difficulty taking it all in at the same time.

My wife has brought home a demo CD done by a gent she met at work.
It's him singing jingles for varous products, and the jingles are from a pretty wide genre of music spectrum. And he sounds good.
He has told my wife that he has retired, and has a masters in music, as well as "all the recording equipment well ever need", I just need to break loose some time and get to know him I guess. He said that he wants a band to record some of his songs with. And well we are a band that wants to record some songs. Sounds too good to be true? Hummm
