Why do we have to classify everything as to what genre it is? You could call your band "The Band That Kicks Ass" and leave it at that...
i like it i mean i just a crazy 21 year old. but i mean it sounds like 80s metal i mean yeah i wish i had that kind of skills.
Hey thanks for all the kind words guys... I was feelin kinda bummed about the "old metal" thing... but after reading all your posts and thinking about it... I might just take this peddle I bought to sound "Nu" and pitch it... then....
Go back to what I really love... that would be my Marshall on 11... ok ya, I'll give it a "Nu Metal" scoop, but WTH...
LOL... I was thinking of changing the band name to
"Bygone Mercenaries" or "BM" for short.... lol
Since so far it is a bunch of old hired guns...
..
LOL
Great support guys, I really appriciate it!

Just a suggestion...you obviously prefer a woman's voice on your tunes, however some of the songs would be better served by having somebody like me sing them, such as Shut Up and Drive. (Listen to my songs and picture my voice on Shut Up and Drive). ...just a suggestion...

The problem with the Marshall is that its distortion causes the notes to bleed into each other. The distortion tends to be very muddy; it lacks definition, and that's a sound that people (like me) immediately associate with the 80's. The modern bands tend to gravitate toward amps like Mesa Boogie or Bogner, etc. A Mesa has a much more "defined" distortion - it's much easier to pick out the individual strings when you play a chord with full distortion on.
If you want to get a more modern sound out of a Marshall there's a few things you can do. First thing is do is drop the overdrive. I don't know if Marshall's have the same setup as a Mesa, but on a Mesa you have two knobs that affect your distortion: Gain and Overdrive. The overdrive is what gives you the distortion fuz, and the gain is what gives you the sustain. On a Mesa, you'll find most people upping the gain and lowering the overdrive to create a very defined crunch. You may be able to do the same thing with a Marshall and make it "crunchier". The other option is to find an overdrive pedal that will alter your tone and give it a more modern sound (personally I'm a fan of the Xotic BB Preamp).
That said, if I were you I'd just take the advice of the people who have replied and play whatever floats your boat, because YOU have to love your music first and foremost. If other people like it that's a bonus. So whatever you prefer for tone, that's what you should play. And if it's retro, so be it.
He's right, I got my tone(s) and no one is going to make me play it their way.
