ever noticed how "The-Man" always seems tohave His hand in Your pocketbook? can't belive it ... just found it the cost to register a trademark and to copywrite a song....
Trademark/logo = $500.00

Copywrite = $100/song upwards to $1,000.00/Album

( bet majority of that goes to some "Fat-Cat" in Washington)

My first and 2nd batchs of copyrighted songs cost me $30, through the Library of Congress.
My 3nd batch of songs cost me more, as the fee jumped to $45.
This is the Library of Congress I'm talking about.
It's $45 per song.
If you register some songs as a collection, It's still $45, no matter how many songs you send them . . .
If you paid $100, someone is charging you $55 to fill in and mail a form . . . .

Samic is righyt - that's how I did mine too. It pays to store up your material and submit for copyright in one large collection.

im not sure if it's legit, but i heard that you could mail yourself the song lyrics or a tape of it or something so the envelope had a date on it, but you can't open the envelope.

Yeah, you could do that, but it'd be the most unsafe way to go.
Your chances of winning in court are real slim; especially if someone else copies your song and goes through the proper copyright procedures before you do . . .
This myth has been around a long time . . .
Do a search in this forum, for 'copyright.'
We've talked through this subject pretty thoroughly, already, on previous threads . . . all posted before you joined . . .
But, it's real good information, it's still all current, and it's something every musician should know.

Dude do NOT believe that, My Step Dad tried that back in 1980, Him & Mom were fighting and He wrote a song titled ... "Call Someone That Cares". taped it w/acoustic,wrapped it,mailed it,put it up, 4 years later preformed it infront of a Promoter ( kinda like the Idol thing), few years later Travis Trent comes out w/ "Here's a Quater". Step Dad hired a Lawyer, went to court, because His song was acoustic,Travis' was not, chords and rythm were changed,stamp did not mean squat. Dad lost. so plz be sure to COPYWRITE BEFORE going public with ANYTHING... is well worth the $$ in the long run

I'll give you the perfect example of why this is just a plain FALSE RUMOR


Take an empty envelope, address it to yourself without sealing it, and mail it away.


Years later, take that same envelope and put in it whatever you want (current famous song lyrics, a bestselling book manuscript, etc.). Seal it up, and take it to a lawyer. Tell me how far you will get.
