i was fillipin thru channels one rainy day and when i came across vh1 i happened to glimpse at a vid of lady ga ga wearing what closely resembled a ziggy stardust lightning bolt. so two things: 1) is she trying to be like david bowie? 2) are all popstars, including manson, a buncha choke artists with no originality or creative spirit.

Pretty much...

Not that they don't have imagination or spirit..

Just that it's all been done before. Manson was just a couple of rungs up the ladder from Alice Cooper - Had to take it to the next extreme.

Think about Gwar, same thing.

Since the mid 70's, 80's, (rock) artists have had to 'borrow' ideas from generations before them.

If you think that's bad, just look at classical music... not much changed in 500 years, I bet the critics of Beethoven's day would call John Williams a "poser" lol.

Cooper was an inovator of showmanship in my not so humble opinion. All ideas spawn from some external stimuli.
The question to me is one of utilizatin vs inovation. Kabuki wore makeup long before rock music was born. KISS, amoung others took the idea and evolved it. Utilization or inovation. I guess we must all judge our fellow artists / groups for ourselves.
Alice Cooper was a shock rocker. Myself I see nothing redeaming in Mansons work.
