Our Bass player switches guitars a lot. He buy's a new bass every other week. If he doesn't like it he turns around and sells it on ebay for a slight profit. I think he currently has about 10!
His switching basses drives our sound person (my wife) crazy she gets him sounding good and then he changes basses in the middle of a set the change is especially dramatic when he plays a bass with active pickups versus the passive ones.

That would drive me crazy, switching axes a bunch of times during a set. I guess if you can do it without too many long pauses then it's okay. Our keyboard/harmonica player switches modes and instruments almost every song. Sometimes he can't find the right harmonica or setting on his keyboard. I just plug my bass in turn the volume up and go all night. I guess the other guys are paid to do the hard stuff, I've got it easy playing bass and singing lead on a bunch of tunes.

I dont know how easy that is Bob! Thats a pretty hard skill set. I cant do it. I cant even talk and play bass, much less sing! Thats really quite impressive!

Hey ya "Grumpy Ol Dog",

That Rick ought to cheer ya up quit a bit.

One of my high school classmates had a rick stereo that he played through a Marshall stack way back in 69!
At the time, I preferred the tone of my old bass player's Fender Jazz which he ran through an Ampeg B-15.

It wasn't until bass amps started incorporating crossovers and small coned high end speakers that the ricks really came into their own. As was mentioned before, Chris Squire was probably responsible for bringing that bass into prominence. (Rickenbacker was also responsible for Roger McGuinn's awsome 12 string sound as well, a decade previous!

Treat her nice and have fun!

I find that it's a LOT easier to sing while playing bass, than to talk. Prolly has something to do with keeping the time while doing two things simultaneously. Koy - check out "Little Dawg II" on my profile. I sing b/u's while playing on that one.

that is a BEAUTIFUL bass. Congratulations! I see that you have a Warwick too...NICE!

I'm still rocking on my Ibanez Soundgear-it actually plays and sounds great, but I definitely have aspirations for something else (I love the Tobias basses-beautiful).

Cool

I used to play a Ric and it left a huge knot on my shoulder every night. heaviest damn axe I ever had!
played like a truck too.
Yours looks like a much better model than I had though, and much smaller.
I have a badass Samik saturn 5 now, but my all time fave is the 4 string Ibanez SR800 sound gear with active pick ups.

Sweet bass, man. When I used to play bass, I used to aspire to owning one of those too. I actually used to play bass and do lead vocals in one of my former bands. It just takes a bit of getting used to, and isn't particularly hard (at least for me).
