EDITED: Well Philby in the end you were right. No matter how I messed with it I couldn't come up with anything better then what I had originally. It would have been nice to go two measures, but it worked out better just the way it was. Anyway we just finished our first tune, it's the first on my profile called Slip Stream. If anyone gets to check it out any opinions would be appreciated: I don't know if this popped up to top, didn't see it in the GC area my apologies if I double post...

Heaven's ta Betsy...um...perhaps if I had heard them more in context...the 2nd is less worse, but I don't like either tone. They're both jarring as hell when they come in, from the little sample I heard.

The 1st one sounds like space aliens have taken the song over for some reason. The 2nd one sounds like an angry leprechaun is taking it over with an evil penny whistle flutey thing.

Sorry...hope you find your sound...these opinions do not represent anyone else but me, & I may be a weirdo.

Lalong,
I've played keyboard leads, both live and recorded, that came out a lot worse them either one of your "Lead Test demos". I was actually impressed with the guitar work. I could imagine you out playing keys in a decent fusion band, bringing down the house. That is what's lacking in most music that we conjure up in our home studios, live energy and a live audience. It should be obvious to anyone with ears that there is no shortage of good players or decent musical compositions. Good performers are a bit more scarce.
I am curious as to whether you have any aspirations to play live.
I believe you could be a great asset to the music scene in your area if you were so inclined.

anyways.... I enjoyed listening so JAM OUT! :D

Thats an easy one. The first one is better IMO.
The second sounds like a keys guy trying to sound like the guitar guy.
The keys guy when playing a lead or solo part should sound like the keys guy not a keys guy trying to sound like the guitar guy.

I also like the guitar part.

Nah Philby your not a weirdo and I always appreciate an honest opinion. There is some guitar that isn’t lined up quite yet, so its sounding overall a little mellow for the lead, after the rest is added in it’ll be fitting. I still have to pass it by my co-writer and if it’s bad in the end, he’ll let me know as well. As the mix comes along, if it's too distracting, I'll go with the first lead style, different instrument. Using the synth sound that's already in the background.

Howlin Mike is someone I met local through here, the guy is just awesome. I’ll start playing something and five minutes later he’ll sound like he’s been playing it for years. He is also a good singer too and great with lyrics. He’s talking about maybe doing some covers, but playing originals in New Jersey is real tough to find a venue. Although I would love the heck out of doing it if the possibility came up. :)

Sans I like your take on it and you’re right, so first it is.

Sentient, I tried it just for kicks but there is to much clash, the harmonics are way off. But it’s always fun to experiment. Yeah have to adjust the levels still hadn’t noticed until it was mixed already, that it was that loud.

Thanks folks, back to mixing….. :)

The second one is a bit weird, but cool.
The first is pretty cool and it would fit an eerie music piece.
