This is a new Guitar Day fo sho!...I have been talking on this list and other forums about wanting to get a new Acoustic Guitar. Several suggestions were made and Thank you all. Yesterday, I decided to quit pursuing this venture because it had become frustrating, and I decided that I would just let a guitar find me. Well, it happened. I wandered into a local music store looking to fiddle around on an Epi Masterbuilt. Well, they did not have one. I guess that most of the little Ma& Pa music stores are dying off thanks to the evil empire of Guitar center. They had a few taylors, a Tak or 2, a Yamaha here and there, and a few Ibanez. I asked the very polite and knowelegable young sales guy if they had any Dreadnaught/cutaways in an electric/acoustic and he showed me a few. The Taylors were out of my price range, but nice. The Taks were ok, but nothing there that justified the price, and the lone Ibanez that fit my criteria. After playing on it a bit both plugged and unplugged, feeling the neck, and a good inspection, I asked the kid to give me his best price on it and a hard case. He came back $40.00 cheaper than any online site for both pieces. So despite its initial disturbing look, it came home with me!
Not real crazy about the Zebra Wood, but its starting to grow on me some. This thing plays just as good, if not better than any of the Taylors I tried. Nice tone, great feel. I am now happy. If you havent seen this instrument, its kinda shocking. Heres pictures:

Must be the Texican in me but I think she's purdy man.
A new guitar is better than a new girl friend.

Thanks man! I really do like it too! I think the unusual looks will grow on me too. It just sounds & plays so damn good, that the looks were not so important.

It IS sorta shocking, but it isn't really ugly. How's she sound & feel, is the important Q

It's awesome. I restore woodwork for a lving so I have an appreciation for natural wood. My bass is solid walnut. It's a shame to cover up pretty grain with paint in my opinion. Later...

I think it's adorable but what counts is the tone. 8) Out of curiousity, may I ask what she cost. :?:

Now I feel justified recommending Ibanez. Again, the quality and value is amazing. I've got a Chinese built PF and prefer to use it over my D-28 that is worth ten times as much.

I got a great deal..Especially since I got it local. It had a sticker of $499
& a hard case was $129, I walked with both pieces & a competent setup for $480.63 including Tax! Ha! I woulda paid sticker!

I've played a couple of similar Ibanez axes, you have to be picky as with any acoustic, but all of them played pretty good and a couple sounded nice. They seem to have slimmer necks than most acoustics, which is a big plus for me. That's one of the reasons I've always look twice at OVations, always slimmer necks... Don't think I tried one made of that wood, but I like the finish too it looks good to me, the bookmatching is a nice job. I remember one in particular made from a blonde wood, natural finish that looked good and sounded great, played good too.

I think that's a good buy, nice guitar. Ibanez makes some good ones, they're always on my list of brands to check out, along with Takamine (1st ones I look at) and a few others like Ovation, Guild, older Washburns... the newer Washburns are not much better than First Act since they turned into Lyon, those are just plain crap but the older ones were pretty good. Same as any though, you have to be picky, no two identical acoustics will play or sound the same.

I played a black Ovation Celebrity in a local pawn shop yesterday that's pretty decent, $200 but not sure if I want to try and get it, I'll have to play it a few times more. Need to hear it plugged in too, seems a bit thin sounding so far but next time I need to bring my tuner, strings are pretty dead and I had a hard time getting it in tune. If I go for an Ovation I'd like a better model, but the Celebrity series is decent, and I'm more concerned about the amplified sound, and still need to check it out in open G since that's one reason I really need another acoustic. Retuning constantly sucks...

Haven't shopped acoustics for a while, since I got my Dean. I'm surprized that Washburn has gotten so bad. They had some nice Koa guitars a few years ago that I was considering.

Last time I checked them out, though, their spruce tops weren't any better than the Oscar Schmidtt I bought 25 years ago, which was a brick to play. I've switched it over to a high strung, but haven't ever had an excuse to use it. I just don't like it at all.
