Richard Wright, keyboardist for the legendary Pink Floyd, has passed away after a long fight with cancer. I recall the first time I saw the Floyd; I was 15 and they were touring in support of Atom Heart Mother (this was actually my second major concert, the first being Santana about a month prior). It was two days before Halloween; I've played Ummagumma on Halloween ever since. RIP Rick, we will not forget you.

Yep, very sad news. A friend told me on the phone one of the members of Pink Floyd had gone to the Great Gig in the Sky and she couldn't remember the name, I had to turn on the news and watch the scroll thing to find out, really really hoping it wasn't Gilmour...I'm not looking forward to the day we lose him, along with Clapton, Page, Ian Anderson, McCartney and so on...remember those guys are all over 60, and most have many years of hard partying behind them. We've already lost Harrison, Jeff Healey, Roy Orbison, Harry Chapin, Jim Croce, half of Skynyrd...not to mention the 60's casualties Morrison, Joplin, Hendrix etc.

Rick will be missed, and unfortunately I was never able to see them live, they never played near wherever I happened to be when they toured the states. The only time they played Austin I had to play the same night, I almost decided on a no show...which wouldn't have been a problem for a street musician, it's not like I was booked for a big club...same when Joe Walsh played...Here in LA nobody played anywhere but New Orleans and Shreveport in the 60's, I wasn't able to go to either one to see bands. So I missed a lot of the best shows, including early Floyd...They never played Norfolk at all when I was there.

think I'll break out Momentary Lapse of Reason now...better yet Delicate Sound of Thunder, I have it on VHS...

Shine on, Rick...

IMO he was one of the most progressive and imaginative keyboardists of all time. I never got to see them live (didn't want to post-Waters). Always been one of my favorite bands though.

RIP Richard.

Damn damn damn damn I hate to hear this. One of the biggest influences in my life was Floyd. Love that band no matter who's in it. Their music is always interesting, & their shows amazing.

I remember when the Wall came out. I was managing a restaurant, & the local radio station was gonna play the entire album at 11 PM. I closed the place, sent everyone home, cranked up the stereo & just chilled right there in the middle of the dining room all by myself. Great acoustics in that room, for some reason.

Richard, you will be missed.

Same here, someone asked me "was it Pink Floyd or someone else in the band?" Then asked me the question from "Have A Cigar", "which one's Pink Floyd anyway?"
