General Music Chat

I am looking for one of those stands that you connect a (usually acoustic) guitar to in order to walk up behind it and play. In my never ending quest to form a band to play my originals, I've decided to tackle the bass chair along with lead vocals (a work in progress), but i think there are still moments in the performance where I need to play guitar. Rather than having to stop and switch instruments, I just want to walk up and do my thing on guitar, then focus back on the bass.
Anyway, I don't know what they call those things...help, please?

I know Alex Lifeson kinda invented his own for holding an acoustic in playing position so he didn't have to unhook or take off his electric. I believe he actually had a patent and has a company make them for retail. Not sure about all that though.

I did consider the doubleneck, but I figured it would be a custom job($$$)!
The only trick I have to pull w/ the "guitar holder" is that I have to have two vocal mics for myself-unless I want to stand behind the guitar the whole time! I guess I could go the headset route, but I don't know-might be too cheezy.

I have had so many wet dreams about using those things on stage!!!!!

My favorite thing is to be able to switch instruments & make new sounds at gigs, & these would definitely make it easier, after one gets past the inevitable learning curve. I see lots of bumping & thumping until you get it just right.

I actually wanted to use one for acoustic guitar & one for mandolin at one time, as I was playing electric for a song that required me to switch in the middle, but it never came to pass, alas alas.

I settled on wearing the mandolin and guitar at the same time, & swinging the mando up when it came time to use it. It was a logistics nightmare, but it was a very cool thing to pull off on stage.

I don't see any bands using them, & I think it would be cool if they did.

I think you're right...good thing that it comes with a tripod stand, or I would probably knock it over dozens of times before I got used to it!
I do a lot of acoustic intros & stuff, and I would still like to do them myself, but most of the time, I've got to focus on the bass.

An fyi of sorts, my wife's family is from Bluefield WV. i think half of WV. lives in Delaware now.
