well? music/playwrights/ poets/ films? :) if you have a decent piece of work, it looks like you can put it out there and maybe get funded?

Kickstarter (and PledgeMusic) both rely on the user/band's networking and mail list. Unless its a "new" invention that might interest a bunch of people not networked with the inventor.

Front page of Kickstarter lists the stats of how many projects get funded. The most successful campaigns are featured. You can see going through them that A - they have their sh*t together, B - they aren't coming up with something from way out in left field that no one wants or needs.

Sambop wrote:Dayne, you could post a track there and then see if any listeners will kick in enough donations to buy you a guitar tuner tohelp you get your guitar in tune! :D

Dayne - Schmed and I both responded to your original question with legitimate answers. Do you know what Kickstarter actually is? Do you have any evidence of it working differently than how we answered?

nobody answered the question.. it was either some sort of innuendo, or some sort of reprimand, etc. a simple yes or no would have been sufficient, not some smart ass remark about guitar tuners

I think "if it looks too good to be true then it probably is" applies here.

It only wurx if you have a lot of fans who like what yuve dunn already. I have had wild success for a music project (15k in an hour) but got crickets on a different kind of campaign for funding a non-profit.

It's not impossible you could raise something if you have a really good promotional angle, but people don't actually go looking for music to fund when there are so many other cool inventions for daily life being funded this way.

that's why I gotta a little offensive.. I was not implicating I was thinking of doing it, I wanted to know if others had attempted it..I know for sure, as a couple people have said, it will take a lot more money to invest in the music than what I am willing to invest to get a professional sounding sound recording, .. I have always stated I just upload generally haphazard "musical outlines" or "ideas" only to find other players that might be looking to find other players to play live gigs.. that Jesse Cole James thing was not totally a disaster, since 1 player has invited me down to his studio to jam, and maybe 2 players are interested as a whole, but 1 of 2 is holding out to find a complete band to start gigging asap..
41 miles (one way) at least for me, is a bit far to drive for musical "fun" :D

That's not where ewe should start anyway, Dayne.

You can make demos on just about any computer these days. Once yuve got about 20 or 30 demos, then you start thinking about a studio recording, and can use those demos to show other musicians what's in yure head. (might not be a good idea after all?)

What kind of computer do you use? Do you have a way to download the GarageBand app? There are some intuitive drummers within the program that almost sound human. You just play along to a click and they do the beat and throw in some fills, etc.

Yoood - do YOU feel better about yourself, and all high and mighty by purposely using bad spelling?

Dayne - you ignored Schmed's and my answers, and just focused on sambop's

Dayne, to answer your question very directly, I have not used it personally. I have 4 friends who have used Kickstarter and had great success funding a recording project ($15-25k each project). They already had great demos, large fan base, and put together a first rate presentation as to why a person might want to pitch in. Win! One of them is producing his project now. If I ever wanted to produce an album, I would do this.

I also have 2 friends who did not get funded. They had just ok demos, few fans, and their work was not very mainstream. They were not ready for this step and it didn't work for them.

With Garageband, an ipad, and a little skill you can make rather stunning demos for only about $300. This is a great way to explore and flesh out your songs for future recording.

I know a local girl (she's just 20 years old) who used Kickstarter to fund recording an EP (5 songs) - she offered various 'rewards', starting with the basic $15 for a copy of the EP. Her goal was a modest $1500, and she hit it.
