At the risk of putting this thread back in play and being accused (again) of (allegedly) going OT...

Had the tube on last night while watching the Jays/Indians game on the web, and on GetTV they reran the famous Smothers Brothers episode from '67 that included the appearance by the Who. They did 2 tunes; the first--I Can See For Miles--was an obvious lip-synch, but the second--My Generation--was completely live. And at the end, they did the 'smash everything' routine--old news now, but not so in '67. This was the episode Pete referred to much later in life as the incident that did significant damage to his hearing; he was standing right next to an amp (looked like an old Vox stack) when it exploded.

Now that's my idea of a 'music video'... But whenever I see something like that, I hear John Hiatt's Perfectly Good Guitar playing in the background.

Hard to believe a guy like Don Kirshner--who thrust the Archies on our collective consciousness, for gawdsake!--could be responsible for something as good as Rock Concert. We used to make a concerted (hey, a pun!) effort to get back home--remember, we were young then, and being out all night on Friday was a major thing--in time to see it.

If you ever decide to post that catalog of performance vids you have, let us know. I've gotten quite a few from youtube--they actually have many of those old Rock Concert segments--but it's always good to see something they don't have.

We grew up on Friday Night Videos on network tv. Didn't have cable. There were usually a couple of good videos and the rest were duds. Then in high school, we watched Night Flights. Much better stuff. Live videos from the 79s and stuff. Both have Facebook pages these days if yer into that sort of thing.

Nowadays, if I ever actually want to see this stuff on the tube instead of the tablet or pc (I even have YouTube on my tv on the firebox) I can get it on Palladia. That's a VH-1 channel that I got with digital cable. It's all concerts and rock docs, maybe a few unplugged or storytellers mixed in. They play music videos (the kind we're talking about) to round out the tv schedule into half hour increments.
