I got a free subscription (I'd never pay for this rag), and this months issue just arrived, although their web site still has last month's, so no viable link.

But one of their main articles this month was regarding music industry salaries. 4 pages of jobs like tour manager, bus driver, concert promoter, record label executive, indie label exec, publicist, etc...

According to spin, many of those jobs are in the $30k to $60k range. Even the "high level record company exec" only makes $92k according to them.

Oh.. and a national touring band makes roughly $30k per member (I dont have the rag in front of me, so going by memory here).

I call bullshit. Not many people would be major label publicists for $35k a year. I think that SPIN intentionally lowballed the numbers to trick newcomers into accepting lower pay.

Thoughts?

Yeah, kinda sounds like crap to me. Not a big fan of SPiN anyway-actually did get suckered into a subscription a few years back-best used as toilet paper.
