busy wkend coming up w 5 gigs spread amongst The 121's (truckstop house band), Planet Jazz, and Mere Mortals (bluegrass) on different instrumentation for me.
i'm looking fwd to all of 'em but i'm especially excited about Fri's P-JAZZ gig. Bill, our bassplayer is working w his other band so i get to play bass in that deal. YES! it's been awhile since i've gotten to take care of the low down w that group. and all due respect to Bill, i think that's my fave lineup for that group (i know it's my wife's fave).....bass, sax/clarinet, drums.
there's lots of space like that and everyone has to work as there's no where to hide!
i'm gonna try something different for the Mere Mortals solstice gig on Sunday and leave my dobro home, and instead bring my two SUPRO lap steels...one in G for the BG stuff and the other in C6 for the Western Swing tunes.
i had them out last night for a practice and it was well rcvd and went over well.
....no, it's not the way Bill Monroe did it, but thankfully there are no grassholes in the group!
