Sweetwater has a heck of a good deal on Martin acoustic guitar strings.. an offer that is good for 9 more days.. a 12 pack of xtra light- light-medium phosphor/bronze strings for $29.99 plus a FREE guitar strap and free shipping.. I think I have paid up to 7 bucks a set at local music store for these.. if you get any good out of this, give me a holler back..

I was never keen on the standard Martin acoustic strings. Before coated strings came along, I used Martin Marquis, but now I use Martin Lifespans - they last me months - and longer! My campfire guitar gets used a couple of times a year, at most. Used it this past weekend (at a campfire!) and the strings still sounded ok and kept their tuning - and they must be 2 years old!

Mike, I think the strings you are talking about are around 17 bucks? the non-coated strings (the pure bronze) are extremely expensive.. I could have fresh strings on every two months for two years in comparison to the strings you now use.. I liked Marquis too, but think they have been discontinued..

Martin 80/20 Phosphor Bronze are usually $3.50 - $5.00
Martin 92/8 Phsphor Bronze are usually $5.50 - $6.50
Martin Lifespans are usually $12.00.

If you only change your acoustic strings every 2 months, you must not be playing them as much as I do - I would replace the non-coated ones every 4 weeks when I was using them. I know I'm getting 3X the use out of the coated strings, at least. I only replace them now when the intonation goes off a little.

Free shipping from Sweetwater, so $12 is always available! Last year I bought 5 sets of the LifeSpans from Guitar center (in store) when they had a special deal going, but they must have been "new old stock" because I kept breaking strings - and not the same one each time, and breaking in different spots, too, so I knew it wasn't my guitar. Subsequent strings I got elsewhere didn't break. I finally got around to contacting Martin about the problem and they sent me 5 new sets free!

I don't have an acoustic (other than a dobro) but I recently switched from Slinkys to D'Addario and I'm very pleased. They ring like a bell and last much longer. Good price but I hate the packaging - worth it though.
