I've worn out 5-6 guitars now, scalloped the metal frets down to the wood. I've scalloped the wooden fretboard on 3-4 guitars.
. . . rosewood . . .
I don't mind too much. As the scalloping takes a long time, and it is gradual, I unconsciously adapt. I notice a difference when I play other peep's guitars . . .
.
Last I checked (couple years back), redoing the frets would run me from $150 - $180 ( in CT ) ). Many guitars aren't worth it.
And to replace the wood on a fretboard must be exorbitantly expensive. You probably wouldn't want to consider that unless your guitar is valuable, or you love it to no end.
