I like the new bulbs that are coming out.

The old incandescent bulbs coming out who knows where... just didn't last AT ALL. Anyone notice that?

OK, L.E.D.s fail but I have to agree they are energy efficient and last much longer. I am totally onboard with good product.

Now you being a group of sensitive musicians with great "ears"... I can hear that 1000th of a decibel needed to make these things work. (it's probably more).

I know, I know, most of you are going to say Glen is proving he is crazy... It may be this brand of bulbs... I can hear these bulbs. It's a Db hum that is so low that it is not clear unless it is completely quiet

I don't like the fact they do not put out any heat.. yes an incandescent 110VAC bulb could put out enough heat to keep the well house from freezing with the tank tarped.. what are your other options you say? heat lamps are overkill, and electric dairy heater / ceramic or those oil bath radiator heaters are overkill too..

Noise from the actual LEDs is pretty unlikely, but the driver circuit, or a transformer, could make some hum that could get amplified by the bulb casing, making it audible.

I have not heard any noise emitted by Light Emitting Diode bulbs. I use them regularly here at work and I love them. They are expensive but last a lot longer put out NO heat and use WWaaayyyy less electricity. Using them as stage lights makes a lot of sense because of the no heat factor. Down here in the south where it is hot as hell the last thing you need while on stage is heat from the lighting!

I've got the same issue - I use 100 watt bulbs to keep some pipes warm in the basement in the sub-10 degree weather (only). I stocked up on a ton of 100 watt and 75 watt incandescent bulbs before they stopped selling them. I heard you can still get them as 'heavy duty' specialty bulbs, but have not looked at Home Depot to see if they have them.
LEDs should not make any hum, but those 'energy efficient' compact fluorescent bulbs designed to replace incandescents that have small transformers in the base can make noise.

Annoying: they have replaced the rear lights (and 3rd brake light) with LEDs now. Seems a great idea - 1 little bulb goes out, there are still another dozen doing the work. Wrong! One bulb goes out, they all go out, and you've got to replace the whole light fixture. So what used to cost you $3 for a bulb will now cost you $75 or more! I had to replace the 3rd brake light on the cap of my pickup, that only cost $30 + $10 for install.
