Hey everyone, I'm really new here-

I recently got back into full time playing and picked up some new gear and stuff, in the hopes of joining a band and finally doing something more than just weekend warrior playing.

I've been out of it for so long, I need some advice on a few things-

1. Finding people to play with- obviously, here is one place, I also put a bulliten up at the local music store, but so far have had no real success in finding people/auditions (been about a month)

2. Playlists, I don't know what people are playing nowadays (modern rock), but chances are I don't know the song, does anyone have any sample playlists?

Any suggestions on what to look for in a band. What NOT to look for? Red flags?

Thanks for any advice

Also, go to open mikes, Play a couple of songs, and tell the audience you're looking for people,
Talk to the top 3 musicians - ask them about it . . . and be sure to keep a pencil and paper with you ALWAYS.
Print up wallet-sized handouts, like a business card (or paper . . .)
Print up handouts, and leave a pile behind.
Try Craig's List, and also the Myspace musician search - you can type in the nearest city, and find several people that way.
Learn new songs all the time.
Practice.
Improve your rhythm.
Practice.
Lean some new chords.
Practice some more.
Learn the bass pattern to your favorite song.
Practice . . .
Learn some more new songs, and practice some more.
When you get good enough, people start talking, and you'll have a wider choice of who to work with.
