I agree with the general consensus. Talk to them, let them know you'll be playing elsewhere, call you when they have something.
I suspect I may soon be in a similar situation. Things going on I'm not crazy about, I may walk out before long. We'll see, but I'm not happy about being almost ready to book and they bring in the guy who didn't show up for practice the 1st 2 times, has a very long history of being late...1 to 2 hours late...and they've already told me they have problems getting him to learn the guitar parts right...1st time he tries to tell me he's playing lead on a song I busted my ass to learn...because he recorded it...I'm outta there..
So I may be in a very similar situation before long and trying to figure out a way to walk off and still not burn any bridges...but I won't tolerate someone with a long history of non reliability, can't or won't play the parts right, shows up to take band pictures without a guitar...when we recorded Southern Cross we waited 2 hours for this guy to show up. Over an hour next time. 1st 2 rehearsals he didn't show up at all. Same thing 10 years ago when he did the recording for our previous band, 1 1/2 hours late, 2 months before we could actually hear the damn thing.
Am I wrong?
Sit them down for a talk. Take the other gig. Try not to burn any bridges in the process.
