Last night's clinician who demonstrated all the guitars (before everyone got a chance for hands-on) was Wayne Johnson, who has payed with Manahattan Transfer amongst others, really talented guy, check out the audio on his website: http://www.waynejohnsononline.com/
One thing I learned was the sounds of the different tone woods used in making the acoustics. When you are demoing guitars yourself at a store, its sometimes hard to hear the differences if they are subtle.
I was surprised by the warmness of the Taylor all-mahogany guitar (top and back/sides) - the Guild model I have heard live and on youtube sounds very thin to me. On the other hand, the all-maple model, although very good-looking with natural flamed top, did sound thin.
What was amazing to hear was the taylor T5 thinline. I played the 12-string unplugged, but Wayne Johnson demoed the 6-string. It has 3 pickup choices - a magnetic under the end of the neck and a body sensor(like taylor acoustics) and a thin stacked humbucker.
By changing pickup selection, bass and treble EQ (and plugging direct into the PA for acoustic or into a Fender amp for electric), the guitar was capable of producing a very good acoustic tone, an archtop Guild sound, a middle-pickup Strat sound or a close-to-Gibson humbucking sound.
