Well thanks for the kind words Joe but really as a musician I feel I must at least commemorate when another musician I liked passes away. Too many musicians are so wrapped up in themselves they can't see the outside world.

damn....nobody gets out alive.

richie haven's "Mixed Bag" album was HUGE for me. i was 11 when it came out and it was a big lightbulb moment for me that you could mix jazz and rock... and how very, very cool that could be. great playing from all involved on that album but harvey brooks' stellar bass playing (as usual) really is a high point.

there was an interview w one of his contemporaries, steve stills, maybe roger mcguinn...i forget who. they were talking about back in the day when they were all playing greenwich village clubs and they'd pass the hat among the crowd for tips. apparently they all (tongue in cheek) "dreaded" when RH would show up because they knew he'd be getting all the tips!

his originals were always top notch but he also had a way of bringing interesting and unique takes to the tunes he chose to cover.

Thanks Jimmy I hadnt heard about Havens and I used to listen to him a lot at one time.

Yea that Woodstock thing and Freedom is a trip, how many of us would have walked out there in front of that crowd and made a song up on the spot, took some huge balls to do that, or maybe it was the stuff they handed out backstage!
