Now I have most of another on the video... I don't want to start giving the whole thing away before it's out.

This is a field I want to enter into shortly. I'm late on this too.
Here's my take.

Have a look at a GOOD movie trailer for a action/adventure film. See what they do. Words flash through so quickly, and it's the image that sticks in your mind. Take a song that will be your lead track, the punch classic, read the words, and try and picture those. Then go back to your video, and rework it again. You may end up with many, many takes. But there will be one that you like.

It's well worth doing, and spending the time on. My vids are useless compared to what will come in the future.
Good luck with it, hope you find the way.

Cheers - Chippy

My videos are just basic ways for people to listen to my new tunes - people these days are much more likely to click on a youtube than to click on a link to a soundcloud (or elsewhere) audio file.
I hadn't thought of a 'trailer'-style video for my new CD, but it's a good idea. Just have to remember to show the links to where you can buy it for long enough for people to remember them (use tinyurl or similar short links).

I am planning on making an album teaser on youtube for my upcoming cd. What are some things that you think would help me promote this upcoming cd?
It's ten songs, an all-instrumental album... mostly rock/metal... definitely a good mix of light and very dark.
I was thinking of including one full song playing during it or else mixing in short sections of maybe three different songs..?

What would you want to know if you were watching it?
Thanks for the help/suggestions!

If you do this on video, consider 20-second excerps of each song. On your three most favorite and one least favorite, over dub a narrative about the making of the songs... (Keep em short) . SOmewhere in the medly, insert a banner that tells the audience how to obtain your cds... Always be sure to push the URLS to your FB pages, etc.. and throw in a couple of photos of you and band mates recording or peforming on a stage.

I absolutely agree with paper dog here. Montages like that are a great way to captivate audiences and wet their thirst without giving away the whole product.
