I really dig his playing on, " Livin' On The Fault Line " by Doobie Brothers,, it is so hard to believe the Doobie Brothers were also decent jazz musicians in a sense.. Livin' On The Fault Line is a great album..

right on, dane. victor feldman was fantastic.....great vibist and keyboardist. besides his own albums and bands he also was a first call session player. i love the stuff he did w steely dan. pretty sure he was one of if not THE first mallet percussionist that Zappa used back in the 60's.

That's a very nice sounding group that should have no trouble finding a good gig.

... but a cello could spice things up , like these post-boppers here

thanks, vinny. those guys are a blast to play with and love to "go exploring".

nice cello selection but for a tune coming from eric dolphy titled "Out There" i thought it was pretty tame compared to some of his other stuff. ron carter... though a little "out there" for HIM, sounded good on cello but i was expecting you to put up some oscar pettiford.....

That sounded like Violent Femmes, Blister in the Sun.

I'm sure that jazz tune predates the Violent Femmes, so it's the other way around but I heard the Violent Femmes 1st so..

Thanks though, I listen to it all.

and Feldman played with the 1st Bassist in Mahavishnu Orchestra (Rick Baird?) back in 1965 as a jazz combo but believe Feldman played keyboards in that setup.. supposedly he was a better keyboardist than vibraphonist.. Miles Davis really thought he was the best.. definitely the best jazz musician from the UK..it helps being "born into it" too..

yep...Rick Laird. before growing his hair long and becoming a dope smokin' fusion playin' hippie Laird was a pretty good straight ahead acoustic bass player.

feldman better on keys or vibes? tossup for me. the guy killed on both.
