It is the media's responsibility to keep government honest. That is why the perp is identified and examined in these cases. That and people are morbidly curious. Can you imagine the howling that would happen if all you heard was that the event happened but no other info?

That's something to chew on Jimmy- Is it their responsibility? There was a time that the whole reason they existed was to inform the public, but it seems that since the 50's and after, they've existed less for the public interest and more for sensationalist journalism, for the obvious reason of selling more papers/news, whatever.

I DO honestly think that they should NOT be reporting the events the way they do- We could have more information, yes, but the information they give us is always in the most sensationalist format possible. Why do they harp so much on the killer (person) and not on the event and victims? What deranged people get from that is simply that if they go on a killing spree, they will be famous and remembered. And that's our problem- we immortalize criminals- billy the kid, various mafia leaders, david karesh, etc.. even presented in the poorest manner, they are still now in the books of history.

What if the news reported on columbine, and instead of giving a 2-hour special on the profiles of the killers, they did that for the victims, and the only mention of the perps would simply be the same for every perp: "an unfortunate, pitiful, poor excuse for a human". Let none of these killers stand apart from the other. No infamy, no immortalization.

So Kramer, how long have you been on this planet? You'll come to love humans, they dream the most beautiful dreams and create the worst nightmares.



No the free press is not to report "news" to us, although that has become its major function. A free press is essential to keep a light on the cockroaches under the fridge.
